Does anyone know anything about "Pardunsk, Russia"? A member of our
genealogical society here in Los Angeles has found this town on a WWII draft
registration for her grandfather, and the family lore is that they came >from
somewhere near Minsk, but we have been unable to figure out what town this might be.
If any Belarus researchers have suggestions, please write to me privately.

Thank you,

Needle in a haystack Cohens #unitedkingdom

Lois Kaufman <lois@...>

Does anyone on list have any connection to Cohens living in Rosemary Lane,
St Mary's, Whitechapel around the turn of the 18th/19th centuries. My
4xg-grandparents were living there in 1791 when their daughter was born:
Samuel Cohen and daughter Sarah/Sally.

Also, there were a number of Cohen families living at Ebenezer Square,
Aldgate throughout the 19th century. Mine were there in 1818 (a different
branch >from the above) and I can say
with certainty that they lived at number 21 >from at least 1841 until 1861:
Moses and Fanny Cohen and their children Lewis (Yehuda Leib), Jacob, Esther,
Mary, Martha and Leah, born between 1815 and 1834. Jacob was my
g-g-grandfather but I have not managed to trace what happened to any of his
siblings. I also do not know if there was a relationship between the varous
Cohen families on this street.

Regards,

Lois Kaufman,
London

Not more than fifteen minutes after I received an email that my View Mate
request was accepted and before I could even ask for assistance on our
Discussion Group, I received several answers with the translation. And this
was in spite of the fact that I posted the note up side down!

Thank you all, I appreciate it. Dorothy, CA

Hi

I found this Latin(?) column heading on an old birth certificate.

The automatic translators available on the web (By the way, a great resource
for translating) says:

"Fatherland and glitter to agree" which to me is more incomprehensible than
the latin!

Any suggestions? Thank you very much.

JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Tracing BARNETT/FLAVIN - England #general

mike broe <mikebroe@...>

I am researching the family of my wife. Her great great grandfather is Phineas
BARNETT. On 14th May 1846 he married Sarah JONES in London, England and they
had at least ten children.I have been able to trace them on the census of 1871
and in the case of Sarah in 1881. Phineas died on 3rd November 1877 and Sarah
on 6th August 1882. I obtained these and other family details >from the Bristol
Hebrew Death register. After these dates it was easy as family members of the
Barnett family are still living.

I have the marriage certificate of Phineas and Sarah. The name of his father is
recorded as Getz FLAVIN, a publican, and that of Sarah is Abraham who was deceased
at the time. Is anyone also interested in the Flavin family.

Family rumour is that the family originated >from Poland/Russia. I know that it is
most likely that the name has been changed. Has anyone any idea as to where I go
from here.
Many Thanks

I just searched the message archives of the General Discussion Group and the
SIGs and I find we have never had a posting about this book:

2nd Edition: University over the Abyss
Elena Makarova, Sergei Makarov & Victor Kuperman.
The story behind 520 lecturers and 2,430 lectures in KZ Theresienstadt
1942-1944 Verba Publishers Ltd. Jerusalem, Israel, 2004. Hard-cover. 560 pp.,
320 illustrations. ISBN 965-424-049-1.

http://www.sharat.co.il/lel/terezin/first.htm

The list of lecturers is given here:
http://www.sharat.co.il/lel/terezin/list.htm

On the home page, you will see the programme for 12-18 June 1944.
I could comment, but any comment is superfluous and too painful.

Celia Male [U.K.]

Footnote: this is a one-time mention. I have no interest in this book, other
than an academic one [statement to conform to Jewishgen rules]. I am sure,
however, I/some of us will consult the list of lecturers again in our postings.
