finding married names -- Bronx NY, 1931 #general

LJTRS@...

I am trying to locate the married name of my cousin, Rebecca Mintz. I found
that she was married in 1931 but since I don't know who she married I can
not figure out her married name.
She was married in the Bronx, NY and I have called every department in New
York City. They tell me that they have no way of telling me (or finding her
marriage record without the groom's information) who she married. This can't
be right, can it? How do people find their female cousins in America
without knowing who they married?

Thank you.

GUTMANN/SCHWAB AUGSBURG(?) to LONDON #germany

Adam Yamey <adamandlopa@...>

Ida GUTMANN, a distant cousin of mine, was born in Augsburg in 1883, daughter of
Moritz GUTMANN, a leather merchant who was born 1851 in Hainsfarth, and
Jette ROSENFELS (my distant relative).

Ida married Isaac SCHWAB in 1906, in Germany. Recently, I have been told that,
in 1948, Ida SCHWAB lived in Belsize Grove, London, NW3.

According to my family tree Ida had a daughter Hildegarde.

I would very much like to know more about this branch of my mother’s family.
If anyone can supply me with any information, please do contact me.

I am also interested in any information about this particular GUTMANN family
[Ida had 2 brothers: Leopold (born 1888) and Sigmund (born 1886)].

Re: Mary DUX #germany

GSt <beagun27@...>

A few days ago, someone named Monica called me to find out if I had a Mary
DUX in my files.
Checking my main Database, I found none. However, in connection with
another inquiry today, I was looking through the 1931 MEYERHOF tree (in
print) and found Mary DUX (b 31 May 1840) m. to Theodore LEON, and three
generation of her descendants.
Mary was the daughter of Julie MEYERHOF and Moses DUX, granddaughter of
Israel MEYERHOF and Henriette BEHREND, great-granddaughter of Samuel
MEYERHOF and Hendel, g-g-granddaughter of Meyer Michel (b. Hildesheim) and
Jeruchim.

If Monica ??? will E-mail me, and tell me her relationship, I can provide
her with the desired data >from the 1931 MEYERHOF tree.

1924 F.A. Cup Final Date #southafrica

Ann Rabinowitz <annrab@...>

I want to thanks the hordes of people who responded to my inquiry regarding
the date for this match which turned out to be April 27, 1924 which was
played during the Empire Exhibition at Wembley Stadium. Several of the
people who responded found some match memorabilia which I hadn't thought to
look for which gave the date.

http://www.nufc.com/2005-06html/fac1924.html

I am still a bit puzzled as the date of my record in London is September so
it can't be for the relative who said he went to the game, but has to be for
his brother who is known to have arrived in South Africa in October, 1924,
from London.
Thanks again to all my great responders.

1924 FA Cup Soccer Final #general

HPOLLINS@...

The Cup Final was held on 27th April 1924.

Harold Pollins
---
Based on a family story, one of our relatives, Israel CHORITZ, attended the
1924 F.A. Cup Final Soccer Match at Wembly in London on his way from
Lithuania to South Africa. As this seemed unlikely as the Poor Jews'
Temporary Shelter Record states that he only stayed one day before
proceeding to South Africa, I wouldl like to confirm when the match occurred
exactly.

Does anyone know how to determine when that match occurred? The record I
have states that he was in London on September 24-25, 1924.

It is possible that once I learn the date of the match that it may turn out
that the record was actually for Israel's brother Samuel who travelled
around the same time.

MODERATOR NOTE: Thanks to Keith Martin, who also submitted the date
of the match.

Hello,

I am in need of help >from all of you. I am searching for a family with the
last name RUBIN. They immigrated >from Shedrin, Russia (now Belarus) about
1908 and settled in Boston, Mass. I have been told that later they might have
lived in Brighton, Mass but am unsure. Aaron, the father, died in the 1920s

Bessie's maiden name was WERTKIN. Her children's names were Elizabeth, Gussie
(Ausgusta), Thomas, Rosie and Anna (twins) and Philip. They were born between
1905 and 1919. I can not find any of them. They seem to have vanished. If
anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I have hit a wall.

Thank you.

City Directories #general

Joseph Fibel <JFibel@...>

Dear J Genners

One of posters today asked for a researcher to do some look ups in another
city's City Directories. This is completely unnecessary.

There are three separate possibilities for such research.

1.) Look in the local phone book for the local church (stake) of the
Church of Latter Day Saints (the Mormons or LDS). Look for a listing
for their Family History Library. Check in the the FHL Index and find
the microfilm roll or rolls for the dates and community you are looking
for, and put in your order for them. It is only a few bucks per roll.
You'll have them in 10 days.

2.) Call any close by large city public library and see if they have the
City Directories you need.

3.) For smaller community look ups, call the
local public library and ask the Information or Reference Librarian if they
have the City Directories you are looking for and if they would be good
enough to do a look up for you. They probably would do it for you if you ask
nicely.

State Libraries also might be able to help you in the same way.

All of the above have Microfilm Readers and Printers.

I live in New Rochelle, NY and have used the N R Public Library set several
times but they don't have a complete set. Several years are open without
books but there are enough so that you can get the information you need.

The NY Public Library has a very large collection and I would guess that
they add to the collection all the time but when I needed the Easton, PA
C.D.'s they did not have them. Of course, the Easton, PA Public Library
did have a complete set for the years I needed for their community.
