Families tended to stay registered in their original towns, however that
would be defined, sometimes even when they moved elsewhere. Women, however,
were not considered on their own; when a woman married, she became a permanent
resident of wherever her husband was a resident. I assume prior to that she
was a permanent resident of wherever her father was was permanent resident,
and did not have residency in her own right. So, if a woman >from Family A,
permanent residents of Lodz, married a man >from Family B, permanent residents
of Warsaw, now that woman also was a permanent resident of Warsaw. It also
was explained to me that a third city could be involved...one of permanent
residency, one of where one actually lives, and I am no longer sure re the third
idea....

I also find this confusing. I have asked someone who knows more than I for
some clarification and will let you know if I receive any!

is revised and issued annually" so I think that any later remarks would have
been read in that context.

As a market researcher and former election officer for a political party
locally I am well aware of the situation that pertained in the late 1970's
in the UK.

My recent experience has been as a householder and elector, and I can
confirm generally Harold Pollin's comments.

As for appearing on the register in two different places, when I was a
student I appeared on the register in both my home town and my university
town. I could vote in local elections in both places, but I had to choose
which parliamentary election I could vote in. Students were encouraged to
vote (by political parties) in the constituency where their vote might more
greatly affect the result.

My original intention in drawing on my experience in these matters was not
for the purposes of a discourse on modern UK electoral registration, but to
maybe highlight general issues regarding registration over time.

I wasn't writing a manual on the subject but I am sure that I can point to
relevant websites if anyone is interested.

Dear Genres,

I have just received abt. 760 pages >from the Austrian MA 8 archives, hoping
to find relationships between my FRIEDMANN ancestors and their families.
In a 1891 hand written "Heeg & Friedmann" factory in Sternberg (now Sternberk),
Moravia announcement for a Vienna newspaper, I found several new names.
Unfortunately the quality of the document is poor, some names are hard to
decipher and their relationships are not identified. I have since searched
the Vienna cemetery database, added dates and some other names buried in the
same graves. It is also the first time I came across Szenitz, Hungary.
Perhaps someone knows something about these families or where Szenitz,
Hungary is or if the town still has the same name?

Note: In abt. 1850, the FRIEDMANN family started a "Textile" business in
Sternberg (now Sternberk), Moravia. In 1852, Anton Heeg, Ignatz Schottik and
Heinrich FRIEDMANN formed a firm named "Heeg, Schottik & Friedmann". In 1863
Johann Kuntner sold the "current post office" factory building to Anton Heeg
& Heinrich FRIEDMANN. In 1868 the partnership dissolved, Anton sold his
share to Heinrich and a new larger factory was built. Heinrich died in 1891,
Ludwig FRIEDMANN inherited the building and sold it in 1909. *In 1908,
Arthur FRIEDMANN (my great-grandfather) bought Ludwig's shares and became
the sole owner of "Heeg & Friedmann".

1966 in New York, NY.
