I believe it's the Yiddish form for the Hebrew Yehezkel (English Ezekiel).

Two Free 411 Phone number Lookup Services - U.S.A.
#general
Yehudh bn Shlmo
I didn't see anything in the archives about these two
free phone number lookup services that will also connect you for free as well. I have looked at several reviews, but nothing says how current these data bases are. The only complaints were getting a busy signal sometimes, and that you have to put up with a possible 15 second advertising message. If it is a long distance of paid cell phone call you surely don't want 2002 information. Has anyone on this list checked these out. 1-800-FREE-411 and 1-800-411-METRO Sincerely, Yehudah ben Shlomo U.S.A.

Hi,
I am trying to find Jerome RISKIN or his heirs or family. He would have been born around 1925 and come >from New York originally and probably lived there until he was an adult. I understood >from another relative that he had married and had at least one son at some point. Because of deaths and divorce more information is not available. I currently live in Pennsylvania and am trying to put together a family tree. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you kindly for taking your time to look.

Dear list,
For some time I have been trying to find out information about the fate of a relative of mine who died in Berlin Sept 29, 1942. His name was Emil POHL, born Sept 6, 1870 in Prague. His address given in the 1939 census was (I was told by the Bundesarchiv and the Centrum Judaicum in Berlin) Berlin Tiergarten Berlin, Jagowstr. 3 "bei JAFFE". How can I find out who this or these Jaffe were to find out more details about Emil Pohl. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you Peter Zimmer Muenster, Germany

Canadian information
#general
david nathan <d.nathan1@...>
Hi Genners,
Anyone in Canada - particularly Montreal, Quebec? I am searching for information about my uncle and his wife, Bert and Lisa NATHAN, who lived in Montreal between about 1830 and the late 1980s and had, I believe, two daughters and a son. Bert migrated >from England around 1930-ish - maybe a little earlier or possibly a little later. According to family lore, initially he obtained a hawker's or pedlar's license to sell household goods >from door to door and later had a furniture business which also dealt by mail order. Unfortunately he never kept in touch with his family back in England, so I have no more information, not even a street address. He was one of the sons of Newman and Sarah Nathan. Both Bert and Lisa are now most likely dead as the last contact was back in the 1970s when they would have been in their 60s or thereabouts. I have tried various Canadian ancestry sites and also Archives Canada, but all want what is, to me, a pensioner, inordinately large sums of money in order to institute any kind of searches, so I am appealing to Genners for some help or advice in this matter. With thanks in advance David Nathan, London,. England. I can be contacted at d.nathan1@.... MODERATOR NOTE: Your chances of success will be improved if you list your search in the JewishGen Family Finder at http://www.jewishgen.org/jgff/

Larry Domnitch to Speak to JGS of Greater Miami, Inc

Barbara Musikar
Please note date change!
Sunday, April 9, 2006 at 10 AM sharp Larry Domnitch, author The Cantonists—The Jewish Children's Army of the Tsar The Cantonist era was a terrifying episode in Jewish history, and one that is etched in the collective memory of the Jewish people. Tsar Nicholas of Russia conscripted thousands of Jewish children – some as young as 6 years old – into his army for up to 25 years! The Tsar's declared goal was nothing less than to convert these children to Christianity; for him, their baptism was of the highest priority. Researching the Cantonists revealed the struggle of these youngsters to maintain their Judaism against impossible odds. Many failed. But some, like Golda Meir's grandfather, succeeded in reclaiming their heritage and reconnecting the chain of Jewish tradition. Today, thousands of Jews are descendants of those stalwart Cantonists. Larry Domnitch has degrees in both political science and Jewish history. He writes extensively for newspapers and journals throughout the United States and Israel, especially about this unique period of history. New Book, "Caviar and Ashes" in the JewishGenMall
#hungary
Carol W. Skydell <cskydell@...>
Dear JewishGenners,
Whether your ancestors came >from Poland or you are just interested in the history of the Polish intellectuals of the 20th century, the new book "Caviar and Ashes" by Dr. Marci Shore is sure to be a fascinating read. Recently published by Yale University Press, the book can now be purchased at a discounted price through the JewishGenMall. Dr. Shore's "Caviar and Ashes" eloquently presents the history of a generation of Polish intelligentsia born at the turn of the last century. The book follows the lives of young innovators who chose the Marxist philosophy even before Poland fell under the control of the Soviet Union. Their selected path took them >from literary cafes not only to corridors of power but also to prison cells. The work, based on the newly obtainable archives >from Poland, the ex-USSR and Israel, recounts over fifty years of Eastern-European Jewish literati history in the twentieth century. Please visit the JewishGenMall at < www.jewishgenmall.org > and to read more about the book or to place your order, click on the moving banner.. We welcome your visit and appreciate whatever purchases are made in the JewishGenMall since this is one way of helping support JewishGen programs and projects. Carol Carol W.
