According to the French Phone Book, there are 12 STEINBRECHER in

Likely war fought in 1850'/early 1860's By Austro-Hungary Army? #hungary

Eva Blanket

Can anyone advise me as to a war that was fought in the 1850's or possibly
early 1860's by the Austro-Hungarian army? I am trying to find out details
of my gggf (?)HERMAN who was possibly in the Austro-Hungarian Army and
sustained war wounds as a result. He lived in either Tuchol'ka or Turka in
GALICIA. He apparently received a invalid's war pension but died thereafter
whilst his wife Chava HERMAN was pregnant. Am I correct even in thinking he
would have been in the Austro-Hungarian Army or would he have been in the
Polish Army?)

I need this information to try and date his death and the subsequent birth
of the baby (The mother died giving birth). The problem is I don't even know
his given name. Could anyone advise the best method of trying to get details
of his military records.....can this be done online?

Searching for GELBMAN and resources on Kisvarda #hungary

candlebright26@...

I'm new to the list, and I'm doing some research for my father on his
mother's family history.

>from the ship manifest, we know that his mother, Lora GELBMAN (b. 1902,
Kisvarda) came to New York in 1907 with siblings Bernat (b. 1892), Mali
(1894), and Helena (1900). There was also a 15-year-old Fani GISDORFER
with them, and the "Joining Relative" column lists a Sali GELBMAN and
T. KOPPERBERG. I'd like to find out first of all whether anyone on this
list might have a connection to a GISDORFER >from Kisvarda, or possibly
even a connection between GELBMAN and KOPPERBERG.

I'm also wondering what the best resources to consult on the town (?)
of Kisvarda would be.

I appreciate your help.

Thank you,

I know there was a family by that name living before the war in Value lui

All the best.
