JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Assist Finding SCHNEIDERMAN,PECKER,STEVELMAN graves in MA

In response to Stephen Field's request for assistance in finding the
graves of members of his SCHNEIDERMAN, PECKER, and STEVELMAN families in Roxbury, MA near Boston: Dear Stephen, The first place to look is on Jewish Gen at the JOWBR (Jewish Gen Online Worldwide Burial Registry) database. Scroll down the list of Jewish Gen offerings until you come to JOWBR, and click on it. It will then be necessary to enter your researcher code and password. If you do not yet have a code and password the site explains how to proceed. You are in luck. A quick search for your families results in 16 SCHNEIDERMAN plus 3 SHNEYDERMAN, 8 PECKER family members, (many more if you search by DM soundex rather than exact spelling), and 5 Stevelman as well as 2 Stievelman. Each result contains additional details about the person. You may want to also contact the Jewish Cemetery Association of Massachuseets, JCAM, directly. JCAM gave the information to JOWBR, but may have additional information on your families, not yet entered into JOWBR or not appropriate for the database. The JCAM website is www.jcam.org. I wish you a speedy recovery and if you need any assistance with the search please feel free to contact me privately. Zai Gezundt! Susan Goldsmith jcwsmg@... Piedmont CA

JRI Poland #Poland Sharing LDS microfilms
#poland
Nicolas Trokiner <trokiner@...>
Getting LDS microfilms in France takes a month and they must be ordered
one per one. Because it is certainly also difficult to get them in other countries, what about "sharing" these microfilms? For example, on next thursday evening, I'll go to view the film # 588.934 >from Staszow, Poland If anyone needs a record >from this film, I can print it. Of course, I will not search for family names but only for a given act(type, year, number). If you think this idea is good and if you can print for other pe ople, start a thread, mentionning the film number and the place. Nicolas Trokiner MODERATOR'S NOTE: If a researcher will be working with a town's microfilms at an LDS Family History Center and wishes to make a similar offer to copy specific records >from those films, such an offer may be sent to this list, requesting private replies.

JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen French to English translation help needed
#general
Shana Egan <segan@...>
I have a letter that is handwritten (both sides of the page) in French.
I have tried to type the letter into a French to English computer translation program but I am having difficulty deciphering the handwriting. Since I don't know any French, I can't guess at what different words are. Is there someone out there who might be able to translate this letter for me? I have not put the letter on viewmate since it is a personal letter and I am not sure what is relayed in it. This letter is important because it is >from a relative who is the daughter of a Holocaust survivor who feels all alone and without family. I promise when I respond to the letter, I will ask her to type future letters so I can use the computer to translate them. Please reply privately to: Segan@... Shana Egan San Diego, CA Seeking: RITZENBERG, DAITCH, KAPLAN and MESHIN/MESSYN >from Kobrin, Divin, Brest, and Kamenets, Belarus and possibly Bailystok, Poland BASS and SHECHTEL >from Lezajsk, Poland YELLEN, HELLER and FRIEDMAN >from Sokolow Podlaski, Poland

Dear Jewishgenners,
I discovered a great resource for Vizhnitsa researchers: Ippen's Provinz-Adressbuch. A photo of my paternal grandmother has just been posted as ViewMate image
VM5304 (http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate) The direct address is http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/ALL/viewmateview.asp?key=5304 The photo probably was taken in Poland, possibly in Augustow. Can you tell me anything about the style and construction of the buildings, the lone tree, the dress, the tools and artifacts on the porch, etc. that would shed some light on my grandmother's life? Please send responses to me directly, at RWeissJGS@..., and not to the newslist. Thank you in advance. Bob Weiss in Northridge, CA

JRI Poland #Poland four great-grandparents for Uncle Harry, thanks to JRI-Poland
#poland
Renee Steinig <rsteinig@...>
For the past couple of years, I've been researching the family of my
husband's elderly uncle by marriage. You've probably all heard variations of this story: Uncle Harry was less than six years old when his mother died and he spent much of his youth in foster homes. He had limited contact with his father, who died 12 years later. Life in the present was a struggle and there was been little conversation about the past. Until two years ago, when I looked up some of his family documents as part of a 90th birthday present, he didn't even know his grandparents' names or where his parents were born. Fast forward to Stanley Diamond's Dec. 31 announcement of new records on JRI-Poland. The list included many towns in the Tarnopol region, so I went looking for Harry's mishpacha. And they were there! It was Jan. 1, Harry's 92nd birthday, and there on my computer screen were the names of four of his eight great-grandparents. Thank you, JRI-Poland, for the joy of introducing Uncle Harry to Mendel, Ruchel, Hersch, and Ratze! Renee Renee Steinig RSteinig@... MODERATOR'S NOTE: Mazel Tov! JRI-Poland is thrilled to have been a part of making Uncle Harry's 92nd birthday a special one.
