The JGS of Montreal - Sunday, October 17th meeting #general

Merle Kastner <merlek@...>

Dear Genners,

The JGS of Montreal was privileged to have had an excellent
speaker at our combined breakfast meeting with Shaare Zion
Synagogue this morning.

Dr. Gunnar "Steve" Paulsson, author of "Secret City:
The Hidden Jews of Warsaw 1940-1945", spoke to a
large crowd of attendees. The attention of those in attendance
was unflagging and the question period that followed was
interesting, too. Dr. Paulsson made the trip >from Toronto
with his wife Gail.

If you missed this lecture, do your best to attend our next
- another fascinating (and related) topic. The lecturer will
be an associate and friend of Dr. Paulsson's:

Peter Jassem, speaking on "Jews Raised as Poles Discover
their Jewish Identity" - Sunday, November 14th. Meeting
details to follow.
---
The next session of the JGS of Montreal's popular
Sunday Morning Family Tree Workshop will take
place on November 7th, >from 10am to 12 noon
in the Jewish Public Library, Greenberg Conference
Room (downstairs).

For beginning & veteran genealogists alike.
An informal way to get one-on-answers and help.
Come and learn how to begin your research,
discuss your research stumbling blocks, vent
your research frustrations & network with others.
Everyone is welcome.

For all information on our upcoming meetings
& Sunday Morning Family Tree Workshops,
call the JGS of Montreal Hotline - 24 hours a day:
484-0969.

LUBLINER from Plosk, Poland #unitedkingdom

Francine Shari Miller <francinesmiller@...>

I am currently researching into the Lubliner family >from Plosk, Poland.

My great-great grandfather was Mordechai Zaev (Wolf) LUBLINER.
He had at least four daughters - Sarah, born 1875; Dina (Dora) born 1878; Ettie
(Nettie) born 1884; and Annie born 1887. We know that all four daughters
came to London, England in the late 1890s, but believe Mordechai remained
in Poland.

We also know that we are related to Hirsch (unsure if correct first name)
Lubliner and his family, but are unsure of the exact connection. He had four
daughters, Chana Rachel, Hinde, Kamle Leah, and Miriam Rose and two sons,
Chaim Tovia and Berl.

We believe that Hirsch, his daughter Chana Rachel and son, Berl, all emigrated
to America (New York) in the early 1900s.

Any information would be greatly appreciated,

Francine Miller, London, England.

JRI Poland #Poland Konstancin suburbs? #poland

George Mason <gmason3815@...>

I have just come across an old family photograph, taken about 1925, that
shows my father with his father and grandmother, Lea/Lena Mozesson (wife of
Shimel/Simon), with the caption, "at her [Lea's] villa in Warsaw suburbs at
Konstancin near Warsaw". Can anyone tell me about this suburb and how I may
go about locating where the Mosesson villa may have been? What kind of a
house would a "villa" have been in those days?

Thank You,
George Mason

Lithuania SIG #Lithuania FW: Re: Kinui & other alternative names. #lithuania

Gerald Gaffin <shirl_geg@...>

My own Hebrew name contains those of my two Grandfathers, 'Shabsey' &
'Sholom'. . Looking through the ALD, these names seem very uncommon, and
wondered if there were alternative versions, kinui, etc., which would have
been used in the mid -late 1800's? A GGF was called Aryeh Leyb, which
names are 'kinui' , I believe, but what other names could be linked ?
Is there an authorative & comprehensive online source that covers such
matters ?

I would greatly appreciate advice & assistance on all these questions.
