Re: RECOGIZING 2 TOWN NAMES #poland

Hadassah Lipsius <kesher@...>

I vote (the second time I voted today), that Janischok is Joniskis,
Lithuania. My great-grandmother was born there and she pronounced it as
Yanischok. It is near Siauliai.

Hadassah Lipsius
Kew Gardens Hills, NY

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Hamburg ship lists had 1891 records giving as the place of original
residence for one relative as Bobransk and for another his place of
original residence as Janischok.
Any ideas? Thanks.
expecting to perform the "conversion," and ask him to ask around in confidence to
find someone who will perform the ceremony. It shouldn't be difficult since the
boys have been studying and observing Judaism all their lives: they will need to
be questioned briefly on what they know of Judaism, will be asked to accept
Judaism, and will be required to immerse in the mikveh. Sometimes it may also be
necessary to draw a drop of blood >from the stump of the foreskin.
==You may even find a rabbi who will rule that infant circumcision by a
automatically converted the infant. As for "converting" a Jew, that shouldn't be
much of a problem; the Israeli rabbinate frequently arranges symbolic conversions
for immigrnts ">from the lost tribes," whose Jewishness may be uncertain.
Help Needed to Locate Family in Israel #general
Sharen Hogarth
I previously posted re locating my cousin Shmulik DOKTOROV/DOCTOROV in
Kiryat-Shmona & a kind Genner provided a telephone number for his wife, Klara. The
number unfortunately was no longer in service. I then decided to write to an
address that I was given for them... that was in July & as yet I have had no
response.
Therefore, I am wondering if there is anyone in the group who knows of the family
or lives in the Kiryat-Shmona area & would be able to contact them for me.
I would be most grateful for any assistance.
Please respond privately to mailto:sjhogarth@...
I was delighted to find immediately two birth records of my relatives
among the new added Mogilev records. Unfortunately they do not lead me to
new discoveries.
