Dachau Camp Records #general

sid.greenberg@...

Dear Friends:

I have found a possible relative in the Dachau Camp Records.

How would I obtain a copy of his information?

I had thought that there would have been instructions on the site as to ordering,
but I couldn't find any.

Many thanks in advance.

Viewmate: Yiddish and Lithuanian Translation #general

James Platt <jrplatt@...>

I was just given a photocopy of a birth certificate >from Gargzdai (Gorzd),
Lithuania >from an ancestor born in 1869 and need help with the translation,
please. The certificate was issued in both Yiddish and Lithuanian (as opposed to
Russian, I'm told). I'm particularly interested in the last name as it was
changed when my ancestor moved to the U.S.

Name: LAVIGNE #general

Bopollack@...

I am rather new to posting and am inquiring for a friend who is Catholic but has
the last name of LAVIGNE (French Canadian). My husband worked for a LAVIGNE many
years ago who was Jewish. We are all curious if LAVIGNE is a version of LEVINE
and could my friend have Jewish roots?

Seeking FAIKES/FAJKES, FRIEDMAN, RAKOFF and MENDELSON #general

Hello to all researchers
Just posted are five pictures on jewish gen, VM4954-VM4958. I would love any
feedback on these ancetsors of mine. One pic is of my great-uncle Murray RAKOFF
who was born in New York 1923 and died in Brooklyn in October of 2001. The other
pic is of my grandmother his sister Ruth(RAKOFF)FAIKES when she was very young. I
would love any information on them and their parents David & Anna(MENDELSON)
RAKOFF. There is a not yet confirmed notion that their parents had other kids that
had died before they were born. The other pic is of my grandmother Ruth, husband
Milton FAIKES, Milton's sister Rose and her husband Aaron FRIEDMAN. The other one
is of a couple unknown to me. They could the RAKOFFs or MENDELSON side. Anyways
if anyone recognizes any of the people in these photos please contact me and we
can exchange information.

Pesha's KARANAVICEN- searching SALAKAS #general

shapie@...

I want to thank although who translated the envelope sent to my grandmother . It
seems to read
Pes(h)e Karanavicene
Salakas zarasu apt
Baznegcu gve
Letuvai

This is very inserting since my grandmother's first cousin was also Pesha.
Obviously they were cousins. Besides checking JGFF want other information can I
gain via the web to trace this family??

Researching Orenshteyn of Gargzdai #lithuania

James Platt <jrplatt@...>

Am researching the Orenshteyn (Arenstein ?) family originally >from Gargzdai
(Gorzd). My great-grandmother was Zyse Orenshetyn, born roughly in 1860,
and married Shmuel Platus, also of Gorzd. Zyse eventually moved >from Gorzd
to Raanana, Israel in 1933 where she died in 1953. Zyse's sister was
Rosa/Reisel and married a man named Burstein, and she eventually moved to
Haifa where she died.

My understanding is that many Orenshteyns also settled in South Africa. Any
help is appreciated.

Re: Imigration Forms #general

Sue Donim <yeruchem18@...>

The form you need to use is request #G-639, FOIA (Freedom of Information Act). You
send it to:
US Citizenship and Immigration Service
ULLICO Building, 4th Floor
425 "I" Street, NW
Washington, DC 20536

You can also just state your request in writing, including as much information as
possible.

These records are no longer handled by the INS, they are handled by the Department
of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Good luck!
Sue Donim

Please advise me as to what number form must be used to request Citizenship and
Intent for Citizenship information >from the US Immigration and Naturalization
Service. Thanks.
George Liss
