UK Certificates

Many of you may have over the years ordered UK birth, marriage and death
certificates which, when they arrived, were of no use to you. In the past, members of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain have donated these and we have added them to the searchable database on JCR-UK. To ease the load on our volunteers we are now offering you the facility to be able to add any certificates yourselves which you feel should be part of our database. These need not be restricted to certificates that you do not want but could also include those of members of your own family. They must of course be limited to United Kingdom certificates. The forms and further details can be found at www.jewishgen.org/jcr-uk We reserve the right both to omit data and to withhold publication at our discretion. For those of us who don't know exactly in what year or on which ship our ancestor arrived in NYC, the free ancestry data base does not provide an indexed search tool. Re: KUJAWSKIs in Israel - anyone's relatives?

Naidia Woolf <rnwoolf@...>
Dear All,
My paternal grandfather, Simon WOOLF, formerly Szija Wolf KUJAWSKI (born in 1878), came >from Lodz, Poland. He immigrated to England in the 1890's where he met and married my grandmother, Annie ISAACS. Grandfather left behind in Poland his father and mother, Icek and Raca/Roca KUJAWSKI, and two sisters, Kaza Jenta K and Trajdla Ryfka. (In 1897, when she was 23 years old, Trajdla married a Michail Zonenberg.) This is all I know about my KUJAWSKI family in Poland. A few weeks ago I wrote to several KUJAWSKI families in Israel, hoping that some of my KUJAWSKI family might have settled there. A couple of days ago I heard >from a young man there named Gil K. re his (late) grandfather, Moshe KUJAWSKI, who died in January 1998. Gil's grandfather, Moshe KUJAWSKI, was born in Lodz. His father (Gil's great-grandfather)'s name was Abraham (Gil's father was named after him); Moshe's mother was named Zelda. Zelda's mother, Gitel, was >from Lithuania. Moshe KUJAWSKI had seven brothers, all of whom perished in the Holocaust. Moshe was locked up in a labor camp but managed to survive and moved to Israel at 1949. In Lodz, the KUJAWSKIs had a metal works/scrap iron business. Is anyone on this list related to this family in Israel or have ancestors named Abraham and Zelda KUJAWSKI? Because I (the person posting this message) don't know the names of any of *my* grandfather's relatives (other than his two sisters) such as cousins, nephews, nieces, etc., or even whether any of them were still in Eastern Europe up and during the 2nd world war, I can't tell whether I'm related to this family in Israel. Please note that I have checked all possible on and off-line resources incl. the deportation lists >from Yad Vashem containing all of the listings under the name of KUJAWSKI. I have even used the services of a professional researcher in Lodz who was able to locate my grandfather's (and his two sisters) vital records in the State Archives but nothing so far for the earlier generation. Please respond privately (and for further particulars), Naidia Woolf rnwoolf@... Copies of birth certificates - issued in Jaffa-Tel-Aviv 1929
#general
Rose Feldman <rosef@...>
I have such a document issued for my father. He immigrated in about 1922
from the Ukraine to Eretz Israel. Though he had later gone to France tostudy, for some reason he needed an official document in 1929. It was issued by the Chief Rabbinate of Jaffa and Tel-Aiv District. It is in hebrew and english and it states "This is to certify that on ground of testimony of trustworthy witnesses as entered in the records of the LocalHead Rabbinical Office, under No. 89/409 ..." Because of the number I guess he wasn't the only one to get this certificate. So I assume, that people who didn't have their original documents, and couldn't get copies (he left after the revolution through the auspices of the International Red Cross), got a substitute document >from the country where they were residing. Actually this maybe another place to look for information, if they still have copies. JFRA Israel - Herzliya - Mon., October 25
#general
Schelly Talalay Dardashti
JFRA Herzliya will meet at
7.30 pm, Monday, October 25 (doors open 7 pm) Beth Protea, 5 Asher Barash St., Herzliya All those interested in Jewish family history research are invited to the next Herzliya meeting as we journey to the past and rediscover its roots. Film: "Uncle Chatzkel" Short introduction by Schelly Talalay Dardashti Film followed by Q&A This 52-minute film has won numerous US and international Jewish film festival awards, as well as awards for its musical score and director, etc. This story of a family journey connects past and present, while documenting the life of Chatzkel Lemchen, of Vilnius, Lithuania. Age 93 when the film was made, he was still working, bridging the Lithuanian, Russian and Yiddish cultures, regarded as a Lithuanian national treasure because of the dictionaries he created to preserve the Lithuanian language during the Soviet era. His life experiences are historical and contemporary turning points. The film incorporates rare Russian and Lithuanian archival footage. Viewers may better understand the past's relationship to the present through the life of Uncle Chatzkel and his visiting Australian family. For directions to Beth Protea/information, contact JFRA Herzliya coordinator Channi Hurvitz, channi@... FEE: Beth Protea residents and JFRA members, no charge; others, NIS 15.
