Dear Friends,
I'm trying to find Mr. Bencion Frenkel (Beñe) his wife Ines or any of their
sons. They used to live in Buenos Aires, (Arribeños 1445 5ºA) at least at
the year 1981. They used to communicate regularly with my grandmother Berta
Rotman (Pohoriles) here in Chile, but as she passed away, there is no more
contact with them.

town of Korostyshev, and he lists about a dozen variants (though not your
precise spelling).

Bear in mind that your family may once have lived in Korostyshev, but they
would have acquired the name after they had migrated elsewhere.

photographs of 30 prominent Galitzianers into the dictionary portion of the
book. The book will be 624 pages, hard cover with dust jacket.

The work identifies more than 35,000 surnames used by Jews in Galicia. It
provides the etymology (the origin of the surname), the districts in Galicia
in which the name appeared, and variants of the name. The 100-page
introductory portion of the book follows Dr. Beider's scholarly style in
analyzing the origin and evolution of Jewish surnames >from that region. This
includes a history of Jewish names in Galicia, basic etymological analysis,
spelling and variation of surnames and analysis of surnames in various
provinces of eastern Europe. An extensive bibliography is provided.

There were ties between Lithuania and Germany because of the lumber trade
(and possibly for other reasons). My family had branches in Jurborg/Kovno
and Berlin; lumber was produced in Lithuania and shipped to Germany, and I
would guess many families did business at each end. I know this is a bit
vague, but perhaps it's a start at answering the question. Vilna, like
Kovno, is located on a river that could have been used for shipping to
Germany.

Vilna to Berlin in the 1860s-1870s. Was moving to Germany
a common occurrence?

My G-Grandmother and some of her siblings moved >from Vabalninkas to Berlin
in the 1890s. When they wrote home or to other family members, it was in
German. Was it common to speak German among Lithuanian Jews?

Dear All,
Can someone help me figure this out. In the ALD Revision List Database I
found that in the 1892-1894 Revision List it records a MS Lopyansky, who
was 30 years old in the LAST census. It doesn't say when the last census
was, nor does it say how old he is now. This seems strange. Is it a
mistake? I also saw several other similar records.
