There are 3 microfilms in the Mormon's Family Centers with vital record of David-Horodok. One of them is transliterated and posted to <http://www.d-hk.org>. On the left pane menu click on "Vital Records". Read carefully the introduction and enter your search. If you reside in the USA you can visit one of the Family History Centers and ask for the other two microfilms, but you'll have to manually sift through them. "Dvera" was most probably transliterated to "Dvorah". Moshe Shavit Israel

Carol Zimmerman inquires whether any Jews fought at The Alamo.
I do know of one Jew, a mercenary soldier, who fought many battles on the side of the Mexicans in their turf wars, and I believe that he did fight at The Alamo as well. His name was SAM DREBBIN (alternately, DREBIN, DRIBBEN, DRIBEN) and his family came >from "Russia," eventually settling in either Brooklyn or The Bronx. Sam, however, moved down to Mexico and spent the remainder of his life as a soldier for hire. A fictionalized version of Sam Drebbin was a character in the recent movie, "And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself." According to the Google search engine, his great-grandson made Aliyah and was killed in a terrorist attack in 1998. Judy Segal New York City, USA

You can use the "%" as a wildcard ... useful in case of misspellings. Use W%

Polish vital records that are 100 years old or less are protected
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
by Polish privacy laws and the laws concerning Urzad Stanu Cywilnego [USC] offices (local civil records offices) that are responsible for maintaining these records. Records over 100 years old are usually transferred to the regional Polish State Archives branch and are then available to the public. This is the simple answer, but in practice some records over 100 years old are not publicly available. If the register book contains records that are both over 100 years old and less than 100 years old, that register will not be transferred to the Archives until ALL the records are over 100 years old. Also, the USC offices are not always prompt in transferring registers to the Archives. So, can you order the records? If they are at the local USC office, a copy of the record cannot be ordered. For more information about vital records in Poland, read the excellent JewishGen Infofile on the subject at < http://www.jewishgen.org/InfoFiles/polandv.html >. Mark Halpern JRI-Poland
