Debbie Korman had asked about resources in Wichita, KS. Here is some
information that may aid her - as well as others - in her search in Wichita: There is one Jewish Cemetary in Wichita. It is called Hebrew Congregation or Hebrew Cemetery. It is on Oliver near 21st street. The main funeral home for the Jewish population in Wichita is Downing & Lahey, 1-800-369-8784. The conservative congregation is Ahavat Achim, or Hebrew Congregation, and the reform Temple is Temple Emanuel. Debbie, if you need further information on the parties that you are seeking, contact me privately and I will contact some of the old-timers in Wichita to see if anyone can remember your relatives. INS Manifest number - occupation column *help*
#general
m most <mostranskym@...>
Hello,
I have thoroughly read through the website section devoted to explanations to the manifest annotations: http://www.jewishgen.org/InfoFiles/Manifests/occ/ and this did help me better understand my great grandfather mastranski's manifest number in the occupation column: 1-430516-8-21-43 However - could someone tell me if there is actually any way to find out more information >from this annotation? Does this number connect to more than the fact that in 1943 the district he applied to was "1" and therefore applied in either Boston, MA or New Haven, CT? I was hoping I might find a way to connect this information with the actual certificate of his naturalization - assuming one was carried out. Can anyone confirm this or point me in the right direction please. Thank you for a wonderfully informed website. Regards, Mike Mostransky |

SCHULWOLF surname
#general
Mila Begun <mmbegun@...>
What might be the origins or meaning (if any) of the surname Schulwolf?
The family branch with the name claims ancestry in Austria, or somewhere in the former Austro-Hungarian empire, but exactly which part is unknown. Thanks in advance. Mila Begun in New York. |

Schlachtensee DP Camp

Have just received information regarding my aunt who was at the above mentioned
DP Camp in 1947 before arriving in the US. Would anyone know if there is an organization, or agency, that I can contact that might have any records of the individuals in this camp. It is identified as: UNRRA Camp 1027 - Berlin, Germany. I take this to a United Nations facility. Any help in locating these records would be greatly appreciated. Fred Klein adam1gs@... |

Earlier this week, I learned of the existence of a Pikholz descendant, born 1912This late in the day, educated Mexicans speak English too. That is even more true for Jews in Mexico.
