My great great grandfather , Aron Srolov/Sroelov, is on a voters list
that was recently added to ALD. There is no information about what kind
of elections were these. There is a comment on the list that he was
illiterate . Knowing what was he voting for may clarify what language
was he illiterate in. I would appreciate any clarification.

You have to know that Belaye Tzerkow means "White Church". Therefore the Jewish
name of this township was "Scwartze Tum`ah" [MODERATOR NOTE: "Black Impurity"].
It is folklore, but maybe you can also find it in some letters etc.

I just received a birth record of my great grandfather's brother from
Mormon copies of Melitopol archives.
This records says that his father Aron Leib Aronov Berenshtam was a
member of Agricultural colony Novo Borislav.
This information suprised me because:
1) As I know the family lived in Akimovka, near Melitopol
2) Novo Borislav colony is placed relatively far >from Akimovka, even
in another uyezd (do somebody knows which uyezd? Kherson?)

I think (without any prove) that the family moved to Ukraine from
Courland, so my questions are:

1) Do somebody knows about some archival resources with a list of jews
who moved >from Courland to Ukraine agricultural colonies?
2) Do somebody knows about some lists of jews who arrived to Novo
Borislav colony?
3) Where should I search for census data and metrical books of Novo
Borislav colony - Kherson or something else?
I searched rtrfoundation.org, but they have not entries on Novo Borislav.
4) Is there chance that they all the time lived in Akimovka but
somehow were recorded as Novo Borislav citizens?

desecration of a cemetery in Camaras, Romania 218 miles NW of Bucharest. The
cemetery contains 126 graves of Jews murdered in WW2. There is a monument
there. Big Red German letters were painted on the walls with slogans like "Jews
out" and "Heil Hitler" and surrounded by swastikas. One swastika was
scrawled with a Star of David. The monument in the cemetery to the murdered Jews
is a pilgrimage site for Jews. The desecration could be punished by up to five
years in jail.

420,000 of 760,000 Romanian Jews were deported to death camps by Pro-Nazi
Romanian ruler Ion Antonescu during WW2.
