Seeking Steven COOPER
#general
Barbara Mannlein <bsmannlein@...>
I seek info on a Steven COOPER. I have done an extensive
web search and cannot locate him. What I do know is below. His parents were Marta and Fred COOPER. They came to the US to escape Hitler. Marta was a milliner in NYC. Steven would be in his mid 50's. Steven went to Law School and later taught at Texas Wesleyan Law School. Texas Wesleyan has no record of his current whereabouts. I checked the on-line legal directories and he is not listed as professor or practitioner in any state. In 1996 he was living on Rustic Woods Drive in Bedford, TX. He is not living there now. Steven is not listed in any phone directory ( I have tried several) in Texas.) He married a German-born girl. A Steven COOPER died on Jan 14, 1997 in Tarrant County, TX. I have checked the online archives of the "Fort Worth Star Telegram" with no success. Is there a kind Genner who could check the obits and death notices and send me the info so I can determine if it is "my " Steven Cooper or not? I have his SSN if it is needed. And, no, he is not listed on the SSDI. Barbara Stern Mannlein Tucson, AZ

Re: Question on Galician (Stanislowow) records and language

During the period of Austrian rule, which covers the years of the available vital records for all Galician towns, there were two official languages for recording vital records -- German and Polish. Some of the Administrative towns used German and some used Polish. To complicate this even more, in some Administrative towns, the language changed when the registrar changed. The German language records are written in old German handwriting (Suetterlin script). Help can be found at the German SIG website at http://www.jewishgen.org/GerSIG/script.htm. Polish language records are written in script as it would be written today. Legibility depends on the registrar. Mark Halpern AGAD Archive Coordinator JRI-Poland

I have ordered records >from JRI Poland for records ofStanislowow circa 1880-1895. My understanding is this was Galicia then and underAustrian rule. Would the vital records be in German?
