Police records- Schwerin #germany

Tomer Brunner <tomerbr@...>

Dear Friends,

My g-g-grandfather and his family had moved >from Poland to Schwerin Mecklenburg
at an unknown date, after 1895, and left back to Poland around 1934.

By writing to the city archives I got information only about one daughter of my
g-g-grandfather and nothing else.

I know that when people settled in a new place they had to be registered at the
police. Does anyone have info of where I should write in order to get these
police registers (specifically in Schwerin), what can be found there, which
years it covers, etc.

The only reference to those records I could find is in a message to this Sig

Belarus location question #belarus

Stan Golembe <ocstan@...>

Dear Sig Members

Thanks for your prompt answer to my previous question. Now here are two
others.

One of the documents I have obtained is titled "List of Jews (males) living
together with Shlema Yankelovich Galemba, a bourgeois, in Ezemitsa village
in korchma of Prince Vitgenshtein"

I looked up Ezemitsa on Shtetl Finder but it is not listed. What does
"korchma" mean? What would my ancestors be doing living with a prince?

Also there is a note that Shlema is living "at present in Lyachovichi"
(where I have document to show he was living 16 years earlier) but "the
children are in charge of the mother, Leya"

Could I interpret this to mean that Shlema had a job in Lyachovichi, but
kept the home for his family in Ezemitsa?

Another question: An ancestor is shown in the 1851 Reviskie Skazki at age
16. The next mention of him is in the 1873 R.S. at age 36 (2 year
discrepancy is understandable). There is a cryptic note by his entry "had
returned >from hiding". Any idea what this might mean?
