Rabbi Baruch EKMAN, Temple Emanu-El, San Francisco, CA
#general
Ricki Zunk <nockbockle@...>
Last night we had dinner with a cousin of ours who lives in San
Francisco. During the course of the evening, while he was telling us family stories we'd never heard before, he mentioned that he'd visited Temple Emanu-El some time ago, and noted a photograph of Rabbi Baruch EKMAN (apparently the first rabbi and founder). He said that Rabbi Ekman's face was virtually identical to that of his (and my husband's) maternal grandfather. We also noted that Baruch EKMAN was the name of the mggf of both my husband and the cousin. We KNOW for sure that "our" EKMAN" family lived in Szumsk, Volhynia Guberna in the late 1890s. That's about all we know of our EKMAN roots. I've heard that it is very common for rabbis to have genealogies reaching back many generations. This is the first time I've found any mention of a possible rabbinical connection. I'm not trying to shirk from work, but is it possible that someone in JGland has some knowledgeof Rabbi Baruch EKMAN? If so, please advise - privately nockbockle@... Thanks, Ricki Zunk South Florida nockbockle@... MODERATOR NOTE: You might want to post this question to Ravsig, a special interest group that concerns itself with rabbinic genealogy: http://www.jewishgen.org/Rabbinic/ |

Content of new Book of Remembrance of Deportations to the Baltic

There has already been information about the newly published book on the
deportations to the Baltic States before. Its title is: Buch der Erinnerung : die ins Baltikum deportierten deutschen, oesterreichischen und tschechoslowakischen Juden = Book of remembrance / Ed. by Wolfgang Scheffler ... . - Munchen : Saur. 2 volumes. ISBN 3-598-11618-7; price in Germany: EUR 148.00. The two volumes contain the names of 32.838 deportees in the order of deportation places, but there is a general index for all the names. There is also a historical description with every deportation place in German and English. Since the details have not been described yet, I provide a listing here: Volume 1: 1) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Berlin to Kowno/Lithuania on 17 Nov 1941 2) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Munich to Kowno/Lithuania on 20 Nov 1941 3) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Frankfurt/Main to Kowno/Lithuania on 22 Nov 1941 4) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Vienna to Kowno/Lithuania on 23 Nov 1941 5) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Breslau to Kowno/Lithuania on 25 Nov 1941 6) List of deportees >from the 8 deportations >from Berlin to Riga/Latvia from 27 Nov 1941 to 26 Oct 19427) List of deportees >from the 4 deportations >from Vienna to Riga/Latvia from 03 Dec to 6 Feb 19428) List of deportees >from the 3 deportations of Czech Jews >from Theresienstadt to Riga/Latvia >from 09 Jan 1942 to 20 Aug 1942 Volume 2: 9) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Nuremberg (including Bamberg, Bayreuth, Coburg, Erlangen, Fuerth etc.) to Riga/Latvia on 29 Nov 1942 10) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Stuttgart to Riga/Latvia on 01 Dec 1941 11) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Hamburg and Schleswig Holstein to Riga/Latvia on 06 Dec 1941 12) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Cologne to Riga/Latvia on 07 Dec 1941 13) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Kassel to Riga/Latvia on 09 Dec 1941 14) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Duesseldorf to Riga/Latvia on 11 Dec 1941 15) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Muenster, Osnabrueck and Bielefeld to Riga/Latvia on 13 Dec 1941 16) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Hannover to Riga/Latvia on 15 Dec 1941 17) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Leipzig/Dresden to Riga/Latvia on 21 Jan 1942 18) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Dortmund to Riga/Latvia on 27 Jan 1942 19) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Theresienstadt to Raasiku/Estonia on 01 Sept 1942 20) List of deportees >from the deportation >from Frankfurt/Main and Berlin to Raasiku/Estonia on 26 Sept 1942 With kind regards Fritz Neubauer, North Germany |
