I have a death certificate for a William JOACHIM, died Brooklyn, New York in
1910. Based on his age at death, 60 years, and his parents' names, I am able to pinpoint him as a Boruch JACHIMOWITZ found in the Rzeszow, Poland (Galicia, Austro-Hungarian Empire) births index on-line at JRI-Poland. Can anyone tell me if William was a name adopted by men born Boruch in that part of the world, in the time frame involved? Sternlicht family from Brzesko and Bochnia,Galicia-JGFF

Dear Genners and Galicianers,
Through my digging into Brzesko surnames found out that there was a Sternlicht family in Brzesko until 1930-33 when they left to Palestine.The weirdest????thing is that I didn't find them in any of the data bases I checked ,and I checked a lot.My conclusion:If the family didn't have a business,didnt immigrate to the USA and wasn't in Poland during the Holocaust,there are lower chances to track them down.Checked also JGFF-no one is looking for Sternlicht >from Brzesko.However,there is a back door way,The Landsmanschafts and organizations of survivors who would have lists of families which originate from those places. I am in contact with the Sternlichts in Israel. Found one Sternlicht in Bochnia(nearby Brzesko) on www.shoreshim.org(yes,shoreshim and not shorashim). About 20 years ago I acquired a "book" titled "Warsaw As It Was". It
consists primarily of a 30"x33" map of Warsaw as of 1939, a color map of Warsaw in 1945 depicting the devastation of the city and an index to the street names of 1939. At that time I reduced the central portion of 1939 map to standard sized (8.5x11) paper. I just scanned it and placed it on the web at http://www.avotaynu.com/warsaw1939.jpg. You can download it to your computer by right-clicking the image and saving the picture. It may take a while if you still use a dialup modem. To provide the detail required to read street names, it is 1.9MB in size. The area covered is roughly west beyond the Jewish cemetery, north to the Umschlagplatz where the Jews were deported to Treblinka, east to the Wisla river and south to (but not including) the Mokotow district. GOLDBERG. He was an attorney/solicitor specializing in civil law in Warsaw in the 1920s and 1930s. He lived and had his office at #3 Poznanska Street. He was married to Sonia/Sophie Nathanson. I am told they died during the siege of Warsaw in September 1939. Can anyone tell me how I might go about finding a picture of him or a pre-war picture of #3 Poznanska Street? Does anyone have anything like a Who's Who of pre-war Warsaw solicitors book with any details on him? Also, my father, Percy MOZESON, lived at #29 Ogordowa Street. Are there any pre-war pictures available of this building? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Earlier this year, I discovered that some of the photos on the "We=20
Remember Jewish Wyszk=F3w" web page, part of Ada Holtzman's extensive "We = Remember" website, also appear in "Sefer Wyszk=F3w," the Yizkor Book of Wyszk=F3w=20= (edited by David Shtokfish). "Sefer" was published in Israel (Tel Aviv) in 1964, by the Association of Former Residents of Wishkow in Israel and Abroad. The book is in Yiddish and Hebrew. Pages 41-43 of "Sefer," which are in Yiddish, were written by Israel=20 Granat and contain two photos ("A" and "J") that appear on the "We Remember Jewish=20= Wyszk=F3w" website. My cousin, Abraham Holland, graciously volunteered to=20 translate the pages into English. It is not the intention of the Shtetl Research Project to have a central repository of family names. There are many of those on JewishGen, especially the JGFF. We do not intend to compete and distract our focus, which is research. It is important that the Shtetl Leaders maintain and update a spreadsheet that I sent to each of them with the names of the researchers for their group. Once a month, on or about the 15th, I expect to receive the updated spreadsheet >from each Shtetl Leader. I will be communicating this to the leaders in an email next week. There is no reason why the shtetl leaders could not circulate this spreadsheet to their Research Group Members, if all agree. Alternatively, the Research Group may want to have a web site where they can publisht the names of the members and their research surnames, if they wish to. The purpose of the Shtetl Research Project (formerly BOF) is to identify data collections in the various Archives for a particular shtetl, have that data extracted and formatted onto a standard Excel format. This data will then be included in the All Belarus Database.
