NEITLICH - USA

Rony Golan, Law Offices & Notary <golanron@...>
Hi,
I am looking for a family that lived somewhere in the US, with the surname NEITLICH. I have very little information: one member of the family was in the US army or special forces, and that they had relatives in Poland in the 1950's. If you have any lead on the above, please reply privately to me, at golanron@.... Thank you, Rony Golan Ramat Hasharon, Israel |

Grodno Cemetery Update from Belarus Embassy in US
#belarus
David M. Fox <davefox73@...>
The following is the official response >from the Belarus Embassy in
Washington DC regarding the former Grodno Jewish cemetery. Dave -- David Fox Mail to: davefox@... Belarus SIG Coordinator Arnold, MD USA http://www.jewishgen.org/belarus *************************** On the Situation with the Site of a Jewish Cemetery in Grodno The Embassy deeply appreciates the concerns of the American Jewish community about the situation with the site of a Jewish cemetery in Grodno and wants to stress the absence of any improper intentions and schemes on behalf of the authorities of the city with regard to the renovation of the Neman Stadium in Grodno. The Embassy would like to point to the fact, that actually there has been no cemetery at the place in question >from the late 50s of the last century, at least. Before that the Soviet authorities had already destroyed the cemetery by turning it into a construction site for sport facilities. So, not only from the point of view of an ordinary passer-by, but also >from the positionof the present-day authorities of Grodno there was no question of deliberately demolishing a cemetery. The Embassy would also like to totally exclude a possible presumption, that the site of the cemetery in question was used improperly because it was a Jewish cemetery. The Embassy is very sorry to acknowledge, that the then Soviet authorities were very free in demolishing of Jewish, Orthodox, Catholic and Muslim cemeteries, as well as of other historic places. Far from advocating the practice, the Embassy would like to ask the AmericanJewish community to take this sad and irreparable fact into account. On its part, this Embassy is doing its best to communicate the concerns of the American Jewish community about the situation with the site of the Jewish cemetery to the authorities in Grodno. The Embassy assures all the concerned with the matter, that the authorities of Grodno are aware of the situation and are working in close cooperation with the local Jewish community to resolve the problem in a proper manner. The Embassy is thankful to all those, who have brought the matter to our attention. This will definitely help us to be more careful in handling with the sites of historic and personally emotional significance for multinational and multi-religious community of Belarus |

STEINITZ, PLESSNER, GINSBERG & Breslau

1.My great great great grandmother was Bertha married
first in about 1813 to my ancestor Schmuel GINSBERG. They lived in Breslau or Beuthen. They divorced about 1820. Henriette then re-married in about 1822. Her second husband was STEINITZ. They had a son Dr. Med. Siegfried STEINITZ, born about 1823. And a daughter Henriette STEINITZ born about 1825. Henriette married PLESSNER and they had 3 daughters. 2.Today I discovered, on microfilm, a catalogue of an exhibition held in Breslau betweeen Nov. 1936 and Jan. 1937. It was ' "Das Juedische Bildnis in Schlesien", Austellung von Portraits von 1800-1860.' In it I discovered the following entry: "SKUTSCH, Helene. geb. STEINITZ. Mutter der Fr. Dr. Ph. Ludw. ZWICKLITZ" It was owned by Martha ZWICKLITZ. Is this Helene, born STEINITZ, related to the Steinitz family mentioned in 1. above? Does anyone have any more information about the STEINITZ or PLESSNER family mentioned in 1. or 2.? Any information about SKUTSCH? Please contact Adam Yamey, London, UK<adamandlopa@...> |

As far as making use of it, I would be interested in having a
copy, just in case I eventually find some kind of connection to my own BAMBERGER family, >from Himmelstadt bei Wurzburg, who weren't Levites. As for elaboration, in the responsa Chavos Yoir, number 132 the author calls his father in law Eliezer Sussman. In the same tshuva he mentions his "mechutan" the "kotzin, parnes umanhig" Moshe "ish Oppenheim" of Heidelberg. (Of course, it remains to be seen if "mechutan" should be taken strictly indicating that one of R. Yair Chaim's children was married to one of Moshe's, or it is meant loosely indicating the relationship presented in this tree). Furthermore, in nrs. 48 and 158 he refers to the Bach as "Chami zekeni" indicating that either his father in law or mother in law was descended >from the Bach. In no. 124 he refers to his wife's brother as "Mohr"r Itzak". David Shapiro Jerusalem |
