Have you found any indication of their "Hebrew" (Yiddish/ religious) names?
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Look for Ketubot, getim, etc. Check their gravestones and see what those say. The street/secular name could be the same as long as the Hebrew name was different. Barbara Mannlein Tucson, AZ

Yefim Kogan
Hi everybody,
I am writing to two SIGs in a same time. My great grandfather Shabsa Kogan (Kohen) according to my family information was a rabbi and also a sales person.. He was born on September 10, 1856, in Kaushany or Dubossary, and died in 1940 in Kaushany. According to the birth record of his daughter Brukhe he was a petty bourgeois, registered in Dubossary. About his father Irihem I know >from the Dubossary Yizkor book, that he was a scholar and a rabbi, wrote many books. Here are two pages about him at the Yizkor book: https://www.dropbox.com/home/zPersonal/MyFamily?preview=0306-SkypewMother.gif https://www.dropbox.com/home/zPersonal/MyFamily?preview=0307.gif Here is translation of it into English: https://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/Dubossary/dub298.html It seems that the author of this article Shabtai Kardonsky is a relative pf mine, and if anyone know his decendents, please let me know. Kardonsky's wife is sister or daughter of my great grand father Shabtai. Here is a little more about Irikhem >from my second cousin Alexander Kogan >from Jerusalem. https://www.dropbox.com/home/zPersonal/MyFamily/z_Research/NewResearch?preview=RabbiYeruham.docx I also know that Alexander Kogan >from Jerusalem collected at the archives books and articles written by Irikhem Kohen. Here are photos of Shabsa and Irikhem: Shabsa Kohen (my great grandfather) and his father, Irihem HaCohen https://www.dropbox.com/home/zPersonal/MyFamily?preview=shabsa-Irikhem.jpg Do you see many similarities in their faces? Shabse had 8 children, among them my grandmother Elka, buried in Kishinev in 1969. I have information about many of his children. If anything here looks familiar to you, please let me know. All the best, Have a great year. Shabbat Shalom, Yefim Kogan born in Kishinev MODERATOR NOTE - Please reply privately to Yefim, unless your response might be of interest to others in our SIG

Akiber EGER birthday

Traude Triebel
The Austrian Jewish Museum in Eisenstadt made a new hot announcement!
Sensational discovery! The Torah wimpel for the famous Rabbi Akiba Eger - we can ultimately prove that he was born on 1 Cheshvan 522 = 29 October 1761 (and NOT as most sources claim on 8 November). His brother Samuel was not born in 1755, but - as we reed in the Pinkas MILA (circumcision register, Mohel book) - in 1762! http://www.ojm.at/blog/2018/09/20/akiba-eger-der-geburtstag/ Traude Triebel A-Wr.Neustadt
