[or https://tinyurl.com/yatxahr4 --Mod.] We used both traditional genealogical methods and current DNA techniques and technology to identify the unique Y-DNA genetic signature of the lineage. We invite feedback on our study. International Holocaust Memorial Day January 27, 2019
#general
Jan Meisels Allen
January 27, 2019 is the 74th anniversary of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration
camp being liberated by Soviet troops. Many governments have legislated that January 27 is an annual Holocaust Memorial Day to mark the date as an international day of commemoration to honor the victims of the Holocaust. The day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on November 1, 2005. The Resolution establishing January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day urges every member nation of the U.N. to honor the memory of Holocaust victims, and encourages the development of educational programs about Holocaust history to help prevent future acts of genocide. The theme for International Holocaust Remembrance Day in 2019 is "Holocaust Remembrance: :Demand and Defend Your Human Rights ". The theme is to get youth to learn about the Holocaust and discrimination. It intends to get the youth to defend democratic principles especially at this time when Neo-Nazi and other hate groups are spreading hatred worldwide. The activities for the United Nations Outreach Program include a program on January 28 1:00PM ET at the United Nations and an exhibition opening on January 28 : Beyond Duty: Diplomats Recognized as Righteous Among the Nations. Additionally, B'nai Brith International and the Permanent Mission of India are sponsoring, India: A Distant Haven During the Holocaust. There are additional United Nations Programs. To read about all of them see: http://www.un.org/en/holocaustremembrance/2019/calendar2019.html The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Commemoration is a conversation where you can tune in live at https://www.ushmm.org/watch/ihrd-2019. You can join the conversation on social media using #WeRemember and #USHMM. Remarks will be Emily Haber, Ambassador of Germany to the United States, reflections from Holocaust survivor Estelle Laughlin and a prayer of remembrance.Yad Vashem has a webpage devoted to International Holocaust Memorial Day which can be accessed at: https://www.yadvashem.org/yv/en/remembrance/2019/index.asp The United Kingdom also has commemoration whose 2018 theme is: Torn from home. See: http://hmd.org.uk/ Check your country/local community for their Holocaust Remembrance Day commemorations. Some countries memorialize the Holocaust on other days, for example, Yom Hashoah in Israel and in the United States is commemorated on the 27th day of Nisan, the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. In Hebrew, Holocaust Remembrance Day is called Yom Hashoah. In 2019 Yom Hashoah is observed on May 2 (starting sunset the evening before).
