Lithuania SIG #Lithuania Dachau Concentration Camp Records
#lithuania
Marj Green <marjgreen@...>
The first posting of the Dachau Concentration Camps is a wonderful addition
to the Holocaust database. I found 6 of my Gruzin relatives (in the records as Grusin). There were 2 abbreviations used in the database that were not in the glossary -- Sch. J. Lit and Befr. Kauf. So I emailed Peter Lande. In case this might be of held to anyone else in Litvak SIG, here is what he responded: Sch. J. Lit. is indeed a Lithuanian Jew. Sch was an abbreviation for Schutzhaeftling--literally a protected prisoner--but really simply a prisoner. befr. Kauf--befr is befreit or liberated--i.e. survivor. My guess is that Kauf probably reads Krgf or Kreigsgefangene--prisoner of war. Not Jewish orat least not identified as such. Marj Gruzen Green Los Altos, CA marjgreen@... Researching: GRUZIN/ZEN/SIN/SON and FRIEDMANN >from Riga, Gostini, Krustpils, etc, Latvia and >from Kovno and Vilna, Lithuania HOFFMAN >from Ozorkow, Poland, and WESOKEK >from Sierpc, Poland

Shelley K. Pollero <rkpollero@...>
Researchers of towns included in the Zamosc Archive Project are cordially
invited to attend an informal Birds-of-a-Feather meeting at the IAJGS Conference in Toronto. We will meet on Monday, August 5 in the VIP room from 9:45-11:00 a.m. Attendees will have an opportunity to network with others who are researching the towns listed below and find out more about the Project. Bring a list of your surnames and towns. We'll share information. We are most grateful to Florence Kellam of the JGS of Toronto for finding a way to accommodate us on very short notice. Although the meeting will not be listed in the Daily Planner, it is on the schedule and a notice will be posted on the conference message board. You might want to bring this message with you. danielle freedman <daniellefreedman640@...>
Dear Group,
Please can you help me. After receiving my G Grandfather MORRIS FREEDMAN born 1874 natralisation record for WARSAW Poland, it was not specific enough to state a shtetl or village subsiduary of WARSAW. His father and mothers names were JACOB & JANE and >from what i gather >from my family members, MORRIS had 2 sisters and 2 brothers (DAVID & JOSEPH). On the JRI Poland data base there are over 200 pages of FREEDMAN Family's. None of which correspondeds to my information. Does that mean my family has not been entered onto the database yet? I am about to write to the Warsaw archives but does anybody have any further suggestions. As it seems that there is too much information on Freedman familys on JRI Poland?
