GOLDENBERG

I haven't written in a very long time due to personal reasons (school,
children, work, etc). But now I am back with full force to learn more about my grandparents family. Mali GOLDENBERG was either a GOLDENBERG, GOLDBERG, GOLDBERGER, or GOLDENBERGER before marriage. I know that they were either second or third cousins when they married. They always said that they were >from Budapest, but that isn't quite true. Instead it was a very small town way out of Budapest. Mali's parents were Paul/Peretz GOLDENBERG and Devorah BRAUN GOLDENBERG. Mali's siblings were Regina, Herman and Albert/Adolph/Boomie GOLDENBERG. Morris/Moritz GOLDENBERG was also >from somewhere near Budapest in a different small town but not too far a distance >from Mali's town. Morris's father was Bernat/Bernard GOLDENBERG. Bernat's first wife was Rebekka and they had one son, Max/Menisce/Menasha GOLDENBERG. Bernat's second wife was Lina, mother of Morris, Rosa/Ruchel, Sadie/Surka, Helen, and Bertha. I am hopeful that someone will recognize these names and write to me. We were not the Goldenberg Candy Company family (darn!!). Also, would Paul & Nancy Johnson please write to me asap as I have lost your e-mail address. Deena Goldenberg Gordon rebdee@... |

Yesterday, I spoke to a cousin of mine. He was born in Czestochowa,
Poland, and survived WWII by leaving for Russia in 1939. Genners:
It is surprising to me that Abraham Cahan is being treated as someone to be found in the footnotes of forgotten history. He wrote a famous, highly regarded novel "The Rise of David Levinsky" and his editorship of the influential Daily Forward marks him as a figure to be reckoned with. He must be noted as a powerful figure in the shaping of the shtetl Jew in his coming to grips with American society. I think I shall dash off a letter of complaint to the Bintele Briefe.
