The Wiener Library (London, England) is one of the world's oldest museums
dedicated to the Holocaust and Nazi era. (https://www.wienerlibrary.co.uk).
It has begun a search to uncover the identities of people featured in
photographs taken by a German- Jewish photographer, Gerty Simon, who fled
Germany to London 85 years ago. They are looking for assistance in
discovering the names of 80 individuals who were photographed by Gerty
Simon, for a planned exhibition next year.

Photographer Simon was already well-established as a photographer before she
left Berlin in 1933. Some of her subjects were Weimar Berlin artists,
politicians, cultural figures and she became one of Britain's most
successful author of children's books.

Once she arrived in London she took photographs of a number of British
famous people. An article in the Times of Israel gives a brief biography of
Ms. Simon, including about her son and husband being interned as part of the
round-up of "enemy aliens" in June 1940 when the British presumed a German
invasion was imminent. Her son was part of the infamous voyage of the
Dunera when many Jewish-German refugees were transported to Australia.
After her son's death in 1970, his partner donated his papers and archives
including hundreds of Ms. Simon's portraits to the Wiener Library in 2016.

The Wiener has catalogued and digitized the images and commenced a social
media effort to identify the unknown individuals. The unidentified images
have been uploaded to Flickr for the public to help identify the unknown

The library is encouraging the use of the hashtag #FindingGerty to increase
awareness of its search.

If there are notes on the back of the photographs the images are so

therefore, everyone should look at the photos.

I did a search on JRI for Michaelson, Zacharias, and a few other
surnames in Prussia and found some in the right town, Szczytno. The archive
is listed as Olsztyn and directions say to click on a link to see the
addresses of the archives. But Olsztyn is not in the list.

I am wondering if anyone knows whether this archive's records have
been moved to another archive, or if this is just an omission on the
address page and the records are really there? If moved, then which
archive has the records? If not moved, what is the correct current
mailing address for the Olsztyn archive?

Additionally, years ago, I had sent for some records >from another
archive and I seem to remember there was a form to use, but I do not
see one now. Is there a form somewhere?

Any idea how much they charge to send some records to the United
States? Is there a cost per item? Are there any limits on how many you
can request at one time?

It has been so long since I last sent for something that I cannot even
remember if they sent a photocopy of the record or just an extract. What
do they send? Can they send it by email instead of hard copy mail?
