Tombstone image on ViewMate

Sharon R. Korn <s.r.korn@...>
I have posted an image of a tombstone at the following address:
https://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/responselist.asp?key=70841 The tombstone is very old and in poor condition, and the image is not clear. I would like to know if the design at the very top, above pey nun, has any Jewish meaning or is simply a decoration. (I am aware that my statement in the posting regarding the meaning of these two letters is wrong as to them representing the word "p'nei.") Please respond via the form provided on the ViewMate image page. Thank you. Sharon Korn San Diego, CA |

Looking for BANNER/BANER, in Israel and worldwide
#general
Jeffrey Knisbacher
My late father Mordechai Menakhem/Markus Mendel (Max) KNISBACHER was
named for his paternal grandmother's father, Mordechai Menakhem BANNER. Max's father, Isak Moshe KNISBACHER, for whom I am named, had served in the German army in WWI and died of the swine flu in September, 1918, shortly before the end of the war. He and a brother who served in the Austrian army in that conflict were both known to the respective armies as BANNER not KNISBACHER. The BANNER connection is the earliest one I know of in my father's family, and I recently found a DNA match with a woman here in Florida who is a BANNER descendant. In 1956 there was a Yad va Shem page of testimony submitted by one David BANNER, in Israel, attesting to the death of his brother Markus BANNER, who might have been named for my great great grandfather listed above. I am very anxious to make contact with any BANNER descendants and try to reconnect the family links that were destroyed by the Holocaust. Note that David BANNER listed his brother's (and, presumably his own) birthplace as Turanowce, Poland and his place of death as Przemyslany, Poland. His parents were Yekhezqel Arye and Dvora. Looking forward to meeting long lost cousins! Jeff Knisbacher, currently in Bradenton, Florida, USA MODERATOR NOTE: Please contact Jeff privately with contact information. |

Hi
Please can someone explain the difference between searching for a surname phonetically and sounds like. And then the difference between those and the various levels of fuzzy logic. I am searching for the birth of my great-grandmother whose name I have been entering as "Sheina Smolenski" and get different results. Many thanks Sue Coleman Researching Smolenski, Pov(o)lotski, Kolominski, Becow and others Harrow, England MODERATOR NOTE: JewishGen has an InfoFile that explains most of the search options: https://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/SearchTypes.htm JRI-Poland uses the same search functions and has an explanation here: https://jri-poland.org/how-to-search.htm#search-types |
