immigration requirements at turn of century
#general
marty <marty@...>
Hi,
Can anyone summarize the immigration requirements at the turn of the century? Specifically, I am looking to understand if having relatives or a sponsoring family already in the US was an advantage (and a reason to change one's name)? Thanks, Marty -- Marty Meyers <meyers01@...>

Nadyne Nelson <nadyne@...>
I found my pgm on EIDB and now I'm trying to pinpoint her birthplace.
It's on the manifest as Horodno, Lub, Russia and I found a reference at http://feefhs.org/maps/indexmap.html for Horodno-Lubomi wolynskie GC (the GC refers to the compiler of the information Greek Catholic church). What is the significance of 'wolynskie' and how can I find out what the name of this town is today? I've been lurking on the newsgroup for a couple of weeks and I'm finding all of this fascinating and addictive. It's nice to know I'm not alone! Nadyne Nelson Nadyne@... ICQ 2484855

Re: PSA Order Form

Avrum Lapin <avrum113@...>
I would like to submit a PSA request to Poland. I see that I needA Wal-Mart money order won't work - as a matter of fact a Wal-Mart money order is not necessarily accepted all over the US. Post Offive International Money orders are only acceptable in certain countries (the Post Office has a list). I remember an incident about 30 years ago when the Bank of America wanted 10 days before allowing me access to funds deposited with a Cashiers check drawn on Chase Manahattan. I am not sure of the volume of business that the PSA does but they could increase it by maintaining an agent in the US. Look at the money the DMV makes by making it easy to buy names. Naturalizations records in Kings County NY
#general
Mindy Fuchs <mindyfuchs@...>
A few days ago I requested help on acquiring naturalization records from
Kings County NY. Thanks to those who responded. I found the Kings County website on this and have discovered that the cost is an astounding $40.00. Could this really be? Would it be more economical to get them >from NARA? I've included the url: http://www.courts.state.ny.us/kingsclerk/P143.htm -- Mindy Fuchs

Hi All
I've seen in the Discussion Group Archives that Arlene Lambeck Stein, Patricia Adams, Phyllis Wik and Debbi Korman had ancestors who sailed from Cherbourg. As I'm doing a thesis about the Jews which embarked in Cherbourg I'd like to contact these people but unfortunately their e-mails are not good. Is there anybody who's in touch with them ? Thanks Fran=E7ois Chetreanu Cherbourg France chetreanu.thesis@...
