Success with Talalaevsky family! #general

Bud484BG@...

Hi Genners!

I would like to share my success posting with this Discussion Group on Feb
8 2001.
In response to what I stated was my 2nd request for information re Lazor
Talalaevsky, originally >from Kiev, but who was living and working in
Vladivostok during the 1930s, I received a response >from Daniel Kohn, an
American researcher based in Moscow, who has helped me locate members of
my Talalaevsky family in Kiev, in the U.S.A. and in Israel. After one year
of searching, I thought I had reached that brickwall and this breakthrough
was a wonderful surprise.

If any of you would like to contact Daniel in Moscow, please contact me
privately at my Email address: bud484bg@...

Dear U SIG Members,
For some reason, we've been receiving a lot of messages this week which
were typed in decorated or coloured fonts. I guess spring must be in the
air. The unfortunate side of this is that our Lyris computer is unable to
decode your messages when they come in at our end. Unlike your original,
they don't look pretty! What we receive is a whole page of this:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; =
charset=3Diso-8859-1">
<META content=3D"MSHTML 5.50.4522.1800" name=3DGENERATOR>
<STYLE></STYLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff>
<DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>3/14/01</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2></FONT>&nbsp;</DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>

As soon as they arrive, our moderators are forewarned by the heading that
accompanies those letters, "This is a multi-part message in MIME format".
We've found that when members who are on individual mail receive such
messages, the body of the letters are blank. We cannot approve them, nor
would you want to receive a Digest that looks like such gibberish. They
cannot even be corrected at the moderation site.

PLEASE ensure that when you send us email, you have your program set to
"Plain Text" only! Black, Regular sized, Times Roman font! It's very
frustrating >from our point of view to have to reject messages which we
would like to approve! There are many e-mail programs in use, so we cannot
tell you how to make the adjustment to sending in Plain Text only. (AOL 6.0
is not capable of sending messages in plain text. AOL users should use an
earlier version for sending messages to any JewishGen hosted mailing list,
or consider using a new provider.)

Our moderators look forward to receiving your mail, & are pleased when it
can be approved.

Good luck, & we hope to hear >from you soon & often,
Florence Elman

Can you recommend Miami-Sephardic genealogy points of interests #general

r.van wijngaarden <r.van.wijngaarden@...>

Friends,

We will be having our second combined reunion of MADURO and DELVALLE
families. Our first one was in Curaçao 2 years ago.
The families have been living in the Caribbean area for a long time and
history coincides.

The program permits us to do some visiting and I would like you to ask for
advise re: must do, must see

I am thinking of university or other libraries/archives/ genealogical
societies/cemeteries. Perhaps there is a place that you would recommend to
us in the Miami area and prevent us >from saying: " oh know, if I had known
that before! "

Our reunion will take place in the first week of May.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I'm researching my grandfather Jacob Benjamin
SILVERMAN and my grandmother, Mary
SILVERMAN. They came >from Russia in the
early 1900's, settled in White Plains, New York.
My grandfather died in 1946 and then my gmother
moved the Bronx, New York (Grant Ave)where she lived for about the next 20
years. They were members of the Hebrew Institute in Westchester
County New York.

Any help would be appreciated.

Szczyrzar = Strzyzow ?? #general

IsraelP <zach4v6@...>

Arolsen gave me a birth place for a Pickholz refugee as Szczyrzar,
although their own reference card says Strzyzow.

With all due respect to D-M Soundex, I find nothing remotely similar to
Szczyrzar on ShtetlSeeker.

Might Szczyrzar and Strzyzow be the same place? (I might complicate
this question by pointing out that neither seems to be anywhere near
East Galicia, but I'll assume that fact is not relevant.)

Survivor Lists - Arolsen #general

IsraelP <zach4v6@...>

Well, I finally received my first group of answers >from Arolsen. My
original letter was in January 1999 and my answers to their questions
were sent in July 2000. I was asking about eight people.

Their response consisted of a two page typed letter. No copies of
documents or anything - just a synopsis. In some cases they had
nothing to tell me that I didn't know >from their card file, in other cases
they had some new information.

In one case their information was in complete contradiction to their
own card file. I'll have to deal with that separately.

Their quoted source material included "Alphabetical List of polish
Jews" drawn up by the Jewish central Committee in warsaw, 1947
and "Register of Jewish Survivors in Budapest" drawn up in 1946.

Is anyone out there familiar with these two sources? Or how to get a
look at them?

Re: Book on Wooden Synagogous #general

Sandyhshor@...

Dear Ms. Silberfarb:

Since the book on the wooden synagogues is no longer available, we thought
you might be interested in seeing the video we have for sale on the
JewishGen Mall entitled, "The Lost Wooden Synagogues of Eastern Europe."

It is 48 minutes long, narrated by Albert Barry who has spent many hours
reproducing several of the most famous of these synagogues in miniature.
Mr. Barry visited the few remaining buildings and discovered four
additional wooden synagogues that were thought lost. It is a most
interesting video and we are selling it on the Mall for a discounted price
of $28.95.

favor needed: Mt. Judah Cem., Ridgewood, NY #general

Joyce Weaver <joyweave@...>

If anyone is planning to visit Mt. Judah Cem. in Ridgewood, NY in the
near future, may I ask a favor? Could you possibly see if they will
release a list of those buried by the Wisoko-Litowsker Bruderlicker?

I am all but absolutely convinced that my grandmother, Jean Frances
(Fanny) VILNER FEINBERG (Sheina Feigel bat Aharon Leib) is buried there,
but letters to the cemetery office have twice said they have no record
of her.

I would be glad to pay for copy and mailing costs if they will do this.
