LIPSHITZ/BOGAT of Baltimore #general

Steve & Martha Lasser <lasser3@...>

Shalom Haverim,

I am looking for the children of Annie Liptz (Lipshitz) and
Moses Bogat of Baltimore, Maryland. Moses was an undertaker
in Baltimore, and died in 1962 according to the social security
death index. Moses may have owned his own business. Moses
was known as "Moe." They had two daughters whose names
are unknown. The daughters would be in their 70s or 80s, I think.

I am not sure if Annie is still alive or when she was born. Her
parents were Leah or Lena Lesser (could be Lasser or Glasser)
and Benjamin Lipshitz. Annie also had three sisters (two were
Sadie and Ida) and a brother Alex.

If you know any of these folks, please contact me.

Thanks,
Martha Eisenberg Lasser

Passenger List Name Spellings #general

mleonards . <mleonards@...>

I'm planning to review the New York passenger list indexes for the first
time next week, and am trying to prepare all possible spelling variations.
Perhaps the more experienced members of the list can tell me if I'm
overlooking anything:

The immigrants I'm looking for were probably >from somewhere in Kaunas
Gubernia. They are a brother and sister who arrived several years apart,
and very possibly >from different ports.

The surname in the United States was HYMAN, so I'm planning to search
Hyman, Heiman, Heimann, Haim, Chaim, Khaim, and Geyman. Has anyone found
Hymans under any other variant?

The brother's American given name was Joseph, so I'll search that, together
with the variants beginning with Y and I.

My great-great aunt was called Mary in the United States. On her
gravestone, the name was, phonetically, "Heshe Mirke": hay-ayin-shin-ayin
mem-yud-resh-kuf-ayin (but the photo is not that clear).

First, since she was Mary in America, is it more likely that she went by
Mirke in Lithuania? Are there any other variations in the spelling of
Mirka/e?

For "Heshe", I'm planning to search Gisha/e, Gischa/e, Gesha/e, Gescha/e,
Gessa/e and Gissa/e. I haven't found any variations beginning with H or Ch
on either the Hamburg Emigration or the Immigrant Ship Transcriber
websites. Does anyone have any additional suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Imagine your great-great-great grandparents searching for the
Afikomen and their delight upon finding it. Now imagine your own
grandchildren engaging in the same, time-honored tradition, right
down to the joyful expression on the children's faces as the
Afikomen is finally found. The simplest Jewish traditions connect
us, one generation to the next. JewishGen is there to help you make
those connections, to uncover your past, to celebrate your present
and to inform your future.
Last August we asked you to "Imagine the world without JewishGen."
Thanks to 2,000 of our 60,000 users, we successfully raised the
necessary dollars in 2000. While we thank those of you who have
already stepped up to the plate in 2001 to help JewishGen grow
faster and more user-friendly every day, there is still more that we
can accomplish with your generous contribution. Imagine the World if
10% of JewishGen's users made financial contributions to support our
growing services!
Users often ask "Why should I pay for something that I've been
getting for free all this time?"
We can only answer "It costs JewishGen money to provide you with the
wonderful free services you enjoy. The larger we become, the more
users we have, the more it costs us to provide the services". We
ask for your financial support not to allow you to use JewishGen,
but to be a part of the increasing number of people who want to see
JewishGen's programs and services grow. With your annual support,
JewishGen is able to accomplish the following:
* Develop and maintain new and exciting programs and projects for
JewishGen users all over the world
* Constantly update and maintain the JewishGen Family Finder,
ShtetLinks, the Yizkor Book Translation Project and Family Tree of
the Jewish People
* Provide and support Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Special
Research Groups (SRGs)
With your support, JewishGen is GROWing not GOing. If you have not
already done so, please consider renewing your gift >from last year
or making a first-time gift today. The most convenient way is to
visit http://www.jewishgen.org/jewishgen-erosity/contribute.html

How can I find out who lived at 213 Lomburch or Lombard Street in
Philadelphia in 1905.
My grandfathers ship manifest said that he went to his brother-in-law Mr.
MIRSIL/MERSEL. The problem is that the only reliable source of information
said that the name had to be GREEN.
