Mogilev Jewish Cemetary...
#belarus
Gerry Gilstrop <ggilstrop@...>
Recently on JewishGen.org I read that the cemetary in Mogilev is in
poor condition. I was curious if anyone has photographs of tombstones, a name index, or perhaps a map (recent or otherwise) of the cemetary. If so, does anyone have the information accesible either via a personal website, or an Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file? Also does anyone know where in relationship to current Mogilev the cemetary is located on a map? Thanks in advance, Gerry Gilstrop Baltimore, Maryland ggilstrop@...

Location of Mogilev Jewish Quarter..........
#belarus
Gerry Gilstrop <ggilstrop@...>
Hello!
Does anyone out there know where within the city of Mogilev the Jewish Quarter existed? It would be helpful if general, as well as concrete descriptions of its location (such as ward numbers, police districts, etc.), could be provided. If anyone has detailed city maps (Russian, German, American, or others) which could precisely articulate these areas, could they please provide a website upon which they are listed, or perhaps an Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file of the map itself available to those interested in Mogilev? Also does anyone, especially those who have been to the city, know what the quarter is like today (destroyed in WW2, made into a business area, etc), and if there are any visible vestiges of what used to once be there? Thanks in advance, Gerry Gilstrop Baltimore, Maryland ggilstrop@...

Re: Bronx Naturalization Certificate
#general
Phyllis Kramer <phylliskramer1@...>
Anita Friedman told of a 1927naturalization >from the Bronx
county Court, Bronx, New York, for her uncle Sam Friedman. Usually when one has the certificate number, date and court, one can write to the Courthouse or National Archives and get the application papers (with all the information we genealogists want). But in this case, no one has ever microfilmed these **County** papers; and there are lots of them. I found many family naturalizations and probate documents in the back rooms in the Bronx Courthouse. (I'm hoping the NYJGS will take on the Bronx after they finish the wonderful job they are doing creating the Brooklyn Indexes.) I've never tried by mail or phone, but the address is 851 Grand Concourse, room 118, 718 590 3635. Or Anita will have to go to the Bronx Courthouse (its near the Yankee Stadium in a a beautiful old building), and look up the application in the bound books. In a way it's more exciting that way, the bound old, dusty books make it seem sooo real! Happy hunting.... Regards, Phyllis phylliskramer1@... searching... Vessel- Bulgarra- Bulgaria
#general
judith reinsdorf <REINSDORFsearch@...>
On my Grandfathers Declaration Of Intention...it states he arrived on
the vessel-Bulgarra....May 15, 1903....Then on The Petition of Naturalization, it states he arrived on the vessel Bulgaria.. July 18, 1903.....This would be easily clarified and I could learn a lot more from the passenger list.... if I could find these vessels......they dontseem to exist.......I have tried many sites of Immigrant ships.... #general
judith reinsdorf <REINSDORFsearch@...>
My great uncle was known as Theodore Reinsdorf... I sent for the
naturalization papers... On the cerificate of arrival it says name of alien....Reinsdorf, Towie. Is Towie a first or last name? All of the other papers say Theodore Reinsdorf..... Could it be that his 1st name was Towie and he Americanized it to Theodore? I never heard of a 1st name of Towie...there are people with that last name........ Judith Reinsdorf Las Vegas, Nevada

LUBANSKY - GINSBERG - RUBIN - LEVY
#general
Mmoreland@...
I have been looking through the JewishGen databases and e-mail archives and
believe that this is a group that might help be find out something about my ancestors. I know very little about them. My grandfather's name was Alter or Abraham GINSBERG. He came to NYC in the early 1900's with his siblings, Hinde and Isle. He died when my mother was very young. My grandmother's maiden name was Sarah LUBANSKY who came to the US some time after her husband (They had been married in Russia), and my mother tells me that she was well educated and very proud that she was from Bobruisk. Her father's name was Lazar and her mother's name was Nettie LEVY. Her father may have been a teacher of some sort. She had a sister who remained in Russia, and cousins in NYC. She didn't remain close to her sister or cousins, and would not talk much about the past because she came to this country "to forget all that." One cousin may have had a restaurant on East Broadway in the 1920's. Another cousin that my mother remembers quite well was Sam RUBIN, who was a reporter for the Jewish Daily Forward. I've learned that -sky can mean that a person was >from that town, and someone who wrote an aticle in the Belarus online newsletter told me that he found one LUBANSKY in the translation work of Slutzk Historical Society with the Slutzk Chevra Kadisha records. The record is: 589. On Friday the eve of the holy day of shabat the ninth of tamuz (25 June 1920) passed away in a institution the venerable mh't Yakov the son of Shmarya-Shlomo Hacohen LUBANSKY.... Can someone tell me what mh't and Hacohen might mean. Any connections? I'm not even sure of when my grandparents arrived in this country, just some time before 1910, so I don't even know where to start looking. TIA! Margaret Moreland mmoreland@...
