ViewMate - Need help with translations #galicia

Josef A. Herz <josef@...>

I posted three file for a close family friend - Jack BERG (nee BERGAZIN).

The documents are related to his parents wedding/marriage - who
married in 1926 in Krasnosieclc/Krasnoshelts/Krosnoshiltz, Poland.

Translations of these documents would be greatly appreciation - along
with extraction of genealogy information, name, dates, locations and
any unusual components of these documents.

These documents can be in Hebrew, Yiddish, and/or Aramaic

The files are: VM286, VM287, VM288

The could be found by going through the ViewMate TOC at:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/toview.html

or by going DIRECTLY to the page they appear on
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/toview93.html

Thank you in advance >from Jack BERG and me.

Re: ViewMate: Boryslaw work detail (a question and feedback) #galicia

P NG <png42@...>

This is a follow up message to my translation request regarding 2 German
documents, which I had posted on ViewMate last weekend (VM248/249). The
documents were >from a work detail in Boryslaw during the Holocaust.

I have reposted the files. They can be found at:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/toview.html , cocuments VM281 & VM282.

I have a couple additional questions and about them and also some feedback
about ViewMate.

On ViewMate, I have included translations of both texts in the captions.
Thanks to the kind help of those who responded, I found out that those
documents were lists of people who worked for an employer named DENKIEWICZ.
One is a list of workers for the purpose of obtaining permits. It does not
specify what kind of permits, though. My thinking is that, in many towns in
Poland, those who worked for establishments that were benefitial to the
Reich received what was called "tickets of life", which protected them from
selections (at least for some time). Could those permits have been those
"tickets of life"? Maybe?!...

The second document is a list of revoked permits... That makes me wonder --
perhaps "revoked permits" was a euphemism for those who were destined to be
killed... Unfortunately, this document is not dated...

What are your thoughts about those documents? Have any of you come across
similar documents? How did you interpret them? Does anyone know anything
about an employer named Denkiewicz >from Boryslaw in 1943?

I apoligize to those of you who have tried to access these documents when
they were initially posted, only to find out that they were gone. This
happened because I had asked JewishGen to delete the files. The response to
my translation request was very quick. I had received a couple translations
even BEFORE my request was posted on the Gesher Galicia discussion group,
and more translations kept coming after my request was posted. I didn't want
the translation efforts of those who kindly responded to be duplicated. I
knew that the next Gesher Galicia digest would not come out for at least 12
more hours, so asking for the files to be deleted was the only thing that I
could think of to let people know that I no longer needed translation.

After I requested that JewishGen remove the files, I realized that I had
done this prematurely because there were additional questions that I wanted
to ask. Later, I also realized that others may benefit >from looking
at those two texts. That's why I have re-sent them.

Using ViewMate was an interesting experience. Here are a couple thoughts
about this new service:

*ViewMate can be helpful not only to those who post material there but also
to others who may benefit >from viewing the material that we have posted.

*Before you ask JewishGen to remove your files >from ViewMate, make sure that
you no longer want the files to be displayed ;-)

New York City Death Indexes after 1965 #general

Mervin Rosenbaum <mervinr@...>

I am researching a death in NYC after 1965. I have used the FHC death index
microfilms successfully for 1965 and earlier. Are the indexes for later
years available outside of NYC? I do not know the year of death and it could
be anywhere between 1965 and now. The individual, a first cousin, is not in
the SSDI. Thank you.
