I think its safe to assume "10f" means 10 year old female. But what are
the others? Is there a code here for date, ship name, port? These

The JewishGen Infofiles will answer your question. Go to
<http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/> and click on "Immigration" under the
heading "Topics:" Here are a few Infofiles that may be helpful to you.
Click on the one entitled "How to interpret New York Passenger Arrival
Index Cards." Here you will find the answer.

50m 21 81 9111
[Age & Sex] [Line] [Page] [Volume]

Now go back to the Immigration Infofiles and click on "U.S. Passenger
Arrival lists microfilms." Here click on "New York." Here click on the
underlined years "1910-1919" in the line entitled "Lists, 1897-1942.
Chronological. 8,892 microfilms. 1897-1909, 1910-1919, 1920-1929, 1930-
1942." (You may have do some trial and error to match the Volume to the
year.) Now scroll down this list until you see v. 5223 on the left side.
This will show you that the ship you are looking for arrived between
April 1 and April 3, 1914 and that passenger manifest can be found on
LDS microfilm #1400969. You can also access this passenger manifest at
the National Archives in Washington, DC and the branch Archives in New
York City.

There is also an excellent overview of Passenger Lists in the JewishGen
FAQ authored by Warren Blatt. You can access this section of the FAQ at

We would very much appreciate if someone could give us information on Jews
from Cordoba, Spain, who might have migrated to the Rhineland, Germany.
Specifically we want to find out more about Jacob ben Moshe Raphael, who
lived in the early 17th Century in Cordoba.

I was sent an old photograph probably taken in the 1920s of a woman
identified as Sarah Solomon. It was previously in the possession of a
descendant of the Berman family who lived in Alabama at one time. I do
not know whether it is her maiden or married name. Since the name is a
common one, I have scanned her picture into my file and would be glad to
send it to anyone who has a Sarah Solomon in their family.

Re: Federal Population Schedule #general

Herb <hvb@...>

There is no "NY Census 1790-1890". There is a collective data base
available at Ancestry.com with this title, described as follows:

Description: This collection contains the following indexes: 1790
Federal Census Index; 1800 Federal Census Index; 1810 Federal Census
Index; 1815 Port Arrivals Index; 1820 Federal Census Index; 1830 Federal
Census Index; 1840 Federal Census Index; 1840 Pensioners List; 1850 Federal
Census Index; 1860 Federal Census Index; 1870 Federal Census Index; 1890
Veterans Schedule; 1890 Naval Veterans Schedule; Early Census Index.

Until July 31, all of ancestry.com is free. I would suggest that you go
there, register, and navigate to that data base. (you may also have
success by simply entering your names in their top-level search that
scans all of their databases).

Good luck!

I have a birth certificate for the "wrong" Stoll. If this is your
relative, let me know. I'd be glad to send it to you.

Maria Stoll, born August 4, 1887, in Cook County, Illinois. Parents were
Anna (nee Weinberger) and Johann Stoll. The parents were both born in
Baiern (?), Germany. This was the 5th child born to this mother.

Unusual name -- Cecil Goblet WEITZMAN #general

snillop@...

An officer in the British Army who was killed at the disastrous Loos
battle on 25 Seeptember 1915 was Second Lieutenant Cecil Goblet
Weitzman. He was aged 31 and his parents were Gustav Hubert and Sarah
Mary Weitzman of Kingston, Jamaica. I assume he was Jewish (and if
anyone has any confirmatory evidence that he was I would be very glad to
have it.)

But I particularly draw attention to his second name, Goblet. Has anyone
ever heard of such a name? It appears not to be a misprint.
