Re: Childbirth locations #hungary

Hi,
My g-g-gm married at 14 and lived norhth of Vranov, in the town of Zborov,
in Saros county. In 1874, at the age of 15, she gave birth to my g-gf. She
went over the border to her in-laws, in Tylicz, Galicia (near Krynica). The
story goes that she played jacks with the other girls while her
mother-in-law took care of her son.
Hope this helps!

LOEWENTHAL - Thanks/Success #general

Just a note of thanks. Three days ago, I posted a note searching for
three brothers LOEWENTHAL who emigrated >from Germany to Israel in the

Thanks to the 3-4 people who responded with helpful suggestions, and
special thanks to the so-far unknown JewGen reader who saw my note and
passed it on to his/her friend - my third cousin twice removed.

Thanks again,

Question on NY Imigration Indices #general

Peter A. Dreifuss <petedr@...>

Many of the imigration index cards I was searching through at the FHS Library
had numbers which have no information to me. Could someone tell me or point
me to an FAQ explaining a card with information such as:

lastname, firstname 10f 21 50 5223

I think its safe to assume "10f" means 10 year old female. But what are
the others? Is there a code here for date, ship name, port? These indices
cover many years so I don't know what to think.
Some of the cards appear to be printed with space for these data to be
entered.
These are marked "NY Form 27". Unfortunately the information I seek is in
code.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Chaim:

I just thought of one other fact that I know about the Kardos. I vaguely
remember that Ernest Kardos's letter also mentioned that a son of Stanley
Kardoes had moved to Canada and was a doctor there. So it may be that he
did not come over in 1956, but was raised in New York City.

Chaim:

Have you gotten into research for the Kardos family in Hungary? I ask
because my husband, Tom Weisshaus, has a couple of letters >from Ernest
Kardos and I believe his cousin, Stanley. These people lived in New York
City and met him at the boat when he arrived in New York. They had been in
the US for awhile.

In the letters Ernest refers to two of T's aunts and uncles (Etelka and
Imre, sister & brother of his father) as "cousins." We have absolutely no
idea what the relationship is. My husand has no memory of a Kardos family
and neither does his brother who is a little bit older.

Ernest worked in a restaurant in New York and Stanley was a doctor.

Yizkor Books #YizkorBooks work load #yizkorbooks

Joyce Field <jfield@...>

Dear Yizkor Book readers,

Good news and bad news.

The good news is that >from January to June of this year we added 57
new translated books and 60 updates to our web site at
http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/translations.html. More good news:
we also have more books in the html queue than we have ever had.

The bad news is that even though we have doubled our html staff over
the past year, we are still behind. This is summer and everyone,
including our dedicated volunteers, should take some time off and
spend time with family. In addition, two of our volunteers have
daughters being Bat Mitzvah this summer. You can appreciate the
parents' commitment to that event.

So we ask all of our wonderful donors, without whom this project
would not exist, to be patient. We are in the process of adding
more technical staff who can help us handle the work load as the
amount of work that is being submitted is longer and more complex.

May I hear a rousing round of applause for the hard working Yizkor
Book Project volunteers!!!

Hello Dan and all,

It's not easy to get unsubscribed >from a search engine - some do have
an unsubscribe page - but there is an easier way out: mislead their
spider or bot. Just change the URL address of your home page and you
are done. Even the change of a single letter will do the trick. The
next time the spider tries to index your site it will not find it - a
404 error will be generated. Usually the search engine will drop it
from its listing.
