Given name Zalnev: is it Betzalel?
#general
David S Chesler <world!chesler@...>
Certain papers akin to a passport list a Zalnev Chesler
apparently in reference to my grandfather Betzalel. We don't what name he went by in the old country (Tsarist Bialystok). Is Zalnev a Russian or Yiddish civil given name? Is it a form of Betzalel? An "equivalent" name? ("Apparently" -- it's possible that this identifies a different family member on the trip; it's possible that one sibling travelled under the name of another.) David Chesler (chesler@..., etc.) http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/2955 (/riverbay/ for Co-op City - reorged!) |

Lithuania SIG #Lithuania E-bay Lithuania Jewish Items
#lithuania
I have noticed that certain items appear for sale on e-bay >from time to time that are being sold >from Lithuania. Today I noticed a list of Jewish births of Vilnius >from 1917 and early 1918 that are for sale. The names are in Russian. The seller of the item seems to have sold other things in the past.
Most of the items are of stamp collecting interest. Some are general government documents >from 1817 and on. I am wondering how someone is legally able to sell such documents. It is disturbing to see such records and items being sold for stamp collecting interests. Bill Wolpert searching Wolpert/Volper(t) of Vieksniai, Tryskiai and Israel |

Roseann,
This is already in the bibliography Joe Fibel ==>Moderator Note: Since we don't know yet if we'll be able to use the bibliography that was compiled for SLC, it won't hurt to collect our own in the meantime even if there is some overlap. |
