Re: Blumberg from Courland to England #courland #latvia

Sarah L.M. Christiansen <sarah.christiansen2@...>

Dear Courlanders,
I am one of the descendants of the Jews who went >from Courland to Kolonie
L'vova, Kherson guberniya (province) in the Southern Ukraine. In fact,
because my grandmother was one of the youngest of her paternal family (she
was a child of a widow and a widower, and had half brothers and sisters from
each side), I did not know about the Courland connection until after both
she and my father had died. The family name is Edelberg, and I learned that
my grandmother's grandparents floated down the Dnieper river to Kherson.
The entire shtetl was populated by Courlanders. A cousin of mine in
Argentina, whose grandfather or great-grandfather was a first cousin of my
grandmother's half brother (and hence a half-first cousin of hers) had drawn
a map of Kolonie L'vova in 1877 and labeled every home. I had it translated
and sent copies to Argentina. Another descendant of this shtetl was able
to create a Jewishgen website with the data (look in the shtetl pages). (I
had given it to Susan King in LA in 1998, but it never got put up). All of
the names of the inhabitants that two teams of Russian translators could
read, are there. Unfortunately, I have little more to offer.
Sarah Lee Meyer Christiansen.

Thank you.
