Hello, Fellow Researchers,
We now understand why some members of an "old" mailing list are not on the "new" list. I am writing on behalf of the working committee of the Borislav, Drogobych, Sambor & Vicinity Research Group (BDS&V, for short). While many people have found us and have subscribed, some haven't, probably thinking membership in the "new" group is automatic. It isn't, friends. This "new" discussion group is housed by JewishGen, and you must send a notice to JewishGen saying you'd like to join, if you wish to receive email >from other subscribers to BDS&V. Much information has already been shared by our resident map, geography and history specialist, Alex Sharon. He listed virtually all the shtetlach in our area, including the newly added shtetl, Dobromil, and all the businesses found in the 1929 Polish Business Directory for our area. Another BDS&V member, David Priever, has volunteered to photograph and record the data on tombstones in New York City landsmanschaft plots for our area of interest. Quite a lot has happened in a very short time. Since subscribing is easy we invite all interested parties to do so. If you want to read about our goals and how to subscribe, do the following: Begin at www.jewishgen.org Click on "Infofiles" Scroll to "Countries", click on "Ukraine" Finally, click on "Borislav, Drogobycy, Sambor & Vicinity" We look forward to more researchers' participation. Best wishes. Carole GLICK FEINBERG Atlanta, GA, USA |

JewishGen Discussion Group #JewishGen Handwriting Analysis - Expert Needed
#general
Kendrick Kreations <racecar3@...>
Hi!
I have a birth record that I need some expert assistance with. The document is a record of birth >from CT in 1893. We located the document through Family History films and are unable to decide exactly what the surnames are for two individuals listed on the record. As a result, I am in search of a handwriting analyst or an expert with penmanship that might assist me. Without this assistance I am afraid I am at a dead-end with my research. If you would be willing to help me, please email me privately at: racecar3@... Thank you for your time and any response. Nancy Ring-Kendrick Daytona Beach, FL MODERATOR NOTE: please respond privately |

Fayga and Fagel are Yiddish words meaning bird. A familiar version of the name is Faygele. It is used as a woman's name. In Hebrew it would be Tzippora. All 3 Yiddish versions are proper names for women. Sincerely, Gene Sucov Yonasan Shapiro < shapie@...> wrote: Is there a name Fagel or is it a variant of Fayga??? I say it is a name |

Transfer of 1949 NY Death Certs to Municipal Archives
#general
Stephanie Lewis <stefwlewis@...>
Hi all!
Does anyone know when the 1949 Death Certificates will be transferred >from the NYC Dept of Health to the Municipal Archives? I have tried calling, but I just get caught up in the extended recording options (none of which helps me!). It was my understanding that these records, over 50 years, would be at the archives, and I've been waiting anxiously as 1949 is the first year not available, but I haven't learned _when_! Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide! Stephanie Lewis Voorhees, NJ |
