Don't Icek, Yitzchok, Ejzak, and even Ayzyk all mean the same thing,
Isaac? What my problem is, is that I have a man named Leybus who named his
one son Icyk and another son, Ayzyk. How could this be, according to

In answer to the question,
"Who was J. Rosewald, Esq., who lived in Baltimore 1870's and was in
touch with Sir Moses Montefiore?"

It could be, Julius ROSENWALD (note spelling variation) (1862=961932),
merchant and philanthropist, was born in Springfield, Illinois, the son
of German Jewish immigrants. See Encyclopedia Judaica.

Joachim is a Kosher Hebrew name, the Latin transliteration of Jehoiakim
or Jehoiakhin (two different and distinct historic figures - see below).
Since the pronounciation of the "Specific Name" for G-D Almighty (YHWH)
is and was forbidden and the name started with that sillabe, it was
sometimes changed to Eliachim or Eliachin.

Jehoiakim (in the Douai version of the Bible Joakim) son of Josiah and
King of Juda circa 606-597 b.c.e.
Ref:
1. 2nd book of Kings chapter 23 et sequelae
2. Jeremiah ch 23 vers 13-19

Jehoiachin (in the Douai version of the Bible Joachin) son of Jehoiakim
(q.v.)and King of Juda for three months (circa 597 b.c.e.)
Ref:

Treblinka. The aim is to have a link to a community's web site, - to
highlight and commemorate the Jews, the life and culture behind each stone

See:

I have about 51 links already.
I need links to 170 other communities.

Also regarding Warszaw, which has tens of web sites, I appreciate very

Israel EYBESCHUETZ #general

Ada Holtzman <ada01@...>

Shalom,

For the past 2 years I was helping my cousin to prove a legend about
possible connection to the great Rabbi Jonathan >from Altuna
(1690/95-1764). I suppose that the connection is through Rabbi Israel
Eybeschuetz, grandson of the great Rabbi. We need to prove this mystery.

We have deciphered all generations starting with the ancestor Itzhak
Eybeschuetz, born probably around 1772, and who came to Plock Poland,
where he served as a teacher. Descandants later moved to Zakroczym,
Poland. "Who were the parents of Itzhak Eybeschuetz" remained the
unsolved enigma.

My assumption (based on the repetition of the name in the family) is
that Itzhak is the son of Rabbi Israel Eybeschuetz, son of Natan Neta,
the preferred grandson of Jonathan, who apparently died in Dresden 1801
(and not in 1811 as according to some of rabbinic sources).

Rabbi Israel was ABD in Lichtebstadt, that is Hroznetin. He had a
brother Gavriel ABD in Dresden and a sister Sheindl who married Dr. David
b'Meir Ullman in Mannheim. He had about 10 children.

How can I, (in Israel) check vital records or other sources in Dresden?
My other genealogical interest is centered in Poland, so that i am quite
ignorant about Jewish German genealogy.

I thank you all very much in advancel, shalom ve'Khag sameach ve'Kasher,

Politeness #general

Phyllis Blumenfeld <plblum@...>

When my daughter first started kindergarten which was in 1950, the
first thing they taught her was a little poem:
Thank you & please are the 2 little keys
That open the door to politeness!
I wish that some of the genners out there would take this little
poem to heart.
In the last few months, I have had occasion to send privately upon
their request, information that I had posted to Jewishgen. Not one
person who had requested this information >from me had the common
decency to acknowledge it and at the least, let me know they had
received it.
Unfortunately, most likely the result of this will be that I will
be reluctant in the future to share anything. I am sure many of you
out there have had the same experience.
I have seen many complaints >from people who send letters to relatives
and never get a reply. This is pretty common & I have had my share of
this too. But since we are using this forum to help one another, it
would be very sad if because of a lack of common courtesy, we saw fit
to hold back information that might be of help to someone.
In the spirit of Jewishgen, let's have a little "Thank you & please"!
Happy Passover to one & all
