I read yor message. I am an ex-Chicagoian and I recommend that you contact
the Newberry Library. The specialize in research and have many old books,
especially Chicago telephone books, that around this time listed the persons'
occupation. Perhaps someone would mail you a xerox of the name and page(s) and
you maybe able to add to your data base. Good Luck. The phone area code is
312-call information.

Jews in Arvida, Quebec (Chicoutimi, Que.) -GALLAY And GREENSPON #general

Valerie Miller Fox <vfox@...>

I have been researching the GALLAY Family as my grandmother was a GALLAY.
Using the Drouin Collection at the Montreal Municipal Library, Sherbrooke
St. (Biblitheque Centrale,) I looked for the death record of ABRAHAM
GALLAY; but instead, I came across the record of a Issie GREENSPAN whose
wife Goldie Leah gave birth to girl on November 1, 193 in Arvida, Quebec!

This is interesting. When my ggrandparents GALLAY lived in Hawkesbury,
Ontario (near Ottawa) at the turn of the 20th century, there lived the
GREENSPON family. Perhaps some have become GREENSPAN. Perhaps both decided to earn a living as peddlars in Arvida.

I am speculating that Abraham GALLAY who is buried in the Baron de Hirsch cemetery (who died in Arvida, Quebec ) knew Issie GREENSPAN.

I made a copy of the birth entry >from the Drouin Collection.

***I am interested in hearing >from any relative of the GREENSPON Family or
the GREENSPAN Family who might help me find out more about Abraham GALLAY.
I do not know who his parents were. His stone just says "Beloved Relative".

If I do hear >from the GREENSPONS of Hawkesbury, I have a document I
photocopied several years ago.

I know there are GALLAYs out there--thanks for your help in the past--could
you help me with this one?

Thank you,

TEOMIM, TEUMIM and Broken Chains #general

Wolinsky <wolinsky@...>

Looking at records I recently received >from Lithuania concerning my
grandmother's maternal side, I found the TUMIN family >from Shrednik.
There also are variations, such as TUMEN and TUMAN.
However, the oldest records, dating back to 1770s/1780s, show the name
TEOMIM or TEUMIM.
Someone on LitvakSig suggested that the family was related to the rabbical
TEOMIM and refferred me to the "Unbroken Chain."
I didn't see any direct links in there to the TEOMIMs of Shrednik, though
tehre are some references to TEOMIMs >from Vilna.
I was wondering if anyone in the group knew if there were other TEOMIM
families or other material that might link Orel TEOMIM of Shrednik to to
the Unbroken Chain.
