Re: vital records for recent Berlin citizens #general

Stefan Pinkus <D.J.G.H@...>

That is partly correct.

People with a legal interest also have access to the records.

If you do not know which Standesamt to approach you can write to:

Senatsverwaltung fur Inneres
I C 506
Fehrbelliner Platz 1
10702 Berlin
Deutschland

For DEM 35.00 they will do a search for you.

I am looking for publication and information about the town of Sade
Laban or White Field.
It is written in the Encyclopedia of Hahamei Galitzia by Meir Wunder.
Thanks Ruben Weiser, Buenos Aires, Argentina.>
In the journal "Reshumot" volume 6 Tel Aviv 1930, page 363, write Shelomo
Rabinovitz in a article about names that :

"The name SODELOWON come >from the name Sade Lawan, and Sade Lawan is a
nickname for the Town Bila-Tserkva in the Kiev gubernya in the Ukraine. And
in the Jewish vernacular the town was known as the "Shewarze Tumme" which means the black impurity "

The town Bila-Tserkva is located 74 kilometer (46 Miles) Ssw to Kiev, Ukraine.
Latitude 49" 48' North
Longitude 30" 7' East

And Mr Shelomo Rabinovitz give a explanation for the nickname Sade Lawan: it
come >from the Talmud and mean: a white corn field without a tree that give
shadow (Shewieit, Phe Beth 82 ).

I think it is nice to see what Jewish people do with names, the Jewish
scholars or other give to the town a nickname Sade Lawan (White field)
named after the big corn fields in the Ukraine but for the common people it
was the black earth and the dirty and a morality place and the called it
"Shewarze Tumme " (black impurity). It is only my hypothesis in this case
and I hope that I am on the good way with the explanation of Sade Lawan.I
don't know the book Encyclopedia of Chachamei Galizia so I am not sure that
we speaking on the same town that you write about it.

etiquette.

My grandmother, Helen Gritzhandler, married Sam Moskowitz who died when
my father was two years old. My father had no siblings and I'm searching
for any information on Sam Moskowitz and his family.

Sam Moskowitz was probably born around 1890.
