Searching: GALEWITZ, HALEWITZ #general

david_kempler@...

With the name of GALEWITZ - does this mean I should try looking for
HALEWITZ? Even though I've found 4-5 of the name coming to the US. Could
it be that the "H" was misunderstood by the person taking down the names
upon embarkation and the "G" was just carried over into America? They were
Litvaks, of that I am sure.

Thanks for anyone's input.

therefore, often represented in English by the letter "H" and is often

Searching: Salomon Levy LEYDESDORF #general

david_kempler@...

Sorry for cross-posting this message, Im new in this field...
A friend of mine submits the following question:

Being a descendant of Salomon Levy LEYDESDORF, born in Presburg
(Bratislava) in approx. 1750, he became a citizen of Sneek in The
Netherlands in 1796. At the same time, a Salomon Levy Leydesdorf -
also born in Presburg - lived in Groningen, which is also located
in the northern regions of The Netherlands. One of the two must
have been a impostor, maybe even both.

How did people prove their identity in the 18th century when they
moved to other countries...?

Thank you beforehand for your reactions.

This profession is called "Schriftsetzer" (with an "e"), the word "to
sit" is "sitzen" in German. It may be possible that there are
orthographic variations, but not necessarily so. I happen to have
been a "Schriftsetzer" once.

I have made this offer before and now before we get into the snowy &
cold winter I am making this offer
once again, probably last time before the spring.

Anyone interested in having pictures taken at Beth-El, Cedar Park
Cemetery in the Paramus, New Jersey
area please get in touch with me. Soon the stones will be covered
with snow and the grounds will be
to wet to walk upon.
