Re: synagogue marriages in England

The web site you quote is actually one done by a commercial organization.
Even in this precised document they point out that a wedding can be either religious 0r civil but the religious weddings have to be carried out in a approved building. The handbook for marriage secretaries is much more explicit. It states in the first paragraph that all purported wedding ceremonies have to be registered. Michael Slifkin Jerusalem, Israel Nick Landau wrote: The current situation regarding all weddings in the UK is to be foundMODERATOR NOTE: All websites are checked by the moderator before being approved for posting. After reading the above message, the moderator had a second look at the site and confirms that it does not appear to be a commercial site.

Deborah Dworski, Arlington, Virginia U.S.A. asked on Mon, 23 Nov 1998,
Message number 19 of the digest, about "Eusher" Anschel (phonetic spelling). Allowing for differences in pronunciation, it seems to me very likely that his name was Asher Anschel, a reasonably common combination. Beverley Davis Melbourne, Australia

trying to trace Morris GLICK and Rose SCHORR
#general
Donald Richter <donr@...>
Morris GLICK and Rose SCHORR were listed as witnesses on the draft of a
'Preliminary Form for Petition for Naturalization' which was prepared for my great-uncle Samuel MAYER. Uncle Samuel is deceased and I have no idea if the petition was ever filed; the latest date on the draft is the date of his Declaration (first paper) which is - July 11th 1922 - so the information on the draft is presumeably >from some time after that date. The indicated addresses of the proposed witnesses were: Morris GLICK 1010 TrinityAve Bronx NY Rose SCHORR 1299 Grand Concourse Bronx NY Both these persons were probably related to his wife's family (her maiden-name was SCHORR). Since she was my grandmother's sister, they and their descendents would be related to me. I'd very much like to make contact, if possible. Can anyone out there help? Donald Richter Researching: SCHORR, RICHTER, BLEIER, DRUMMER, ROTH >from the region between, and about, what is now TURULUNG, Romania and VINOGRADOV, Ukraine
