Dear Susan--
Your request for contributions (copied below) should be gladly answered by all who partake of JewishGen's most wonderful resources-- The people who obviously lovingly run the various parts of it, and the subscribers who freely share their knowledge, experience and expertise. The electronic resources have grown in depth and scope. If we want to see all this continue, we need to help. My check will be in the mail next week, when I sit down to pay my monthly bills. Best Regards and Happy Holidays! Howard Rosen Los Angeles HNRosen@... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------ Now we just need to accomplish the mission of "paying for the increase in services". <grin> Your contributions will insure the continued accessibility to JewishGen's information highway... which just grew by about 24 lanes... so to speak! Information on how you can contribute to JewishGen is available at the following URL's. http://www.jewishgen.org/jewishgen-erosity/ or http://www.jewishgen.org/jewishgen-erosity/1k.html (for those who may wish to contribute a minimum of $1000 annually) Information for sending checks, faxing credit cards or making online credit card contributions is readily available at both of these sites. For those who simply need the address: JewishGen, Inc. 12 Greenway Plaza, Suite 1100 Houston, TX 77046

Could you please send me an email about how to go about finding if my Great
Grandfather owned land in Palestine in the 19 th Century. I have had a try at doing it myself, but it keeps saying that I have used the wrong password, but I wrote down the password, and I have not got it wrong. Can you help me, or tell me how to do it please? Monica Sprott

HELP with printing my Family Tree
#general
Warren Kohn <wkohn@...>
I need advice with printing out my family tree which runs 19' in length.
I am using Family Tree Maker 5.0 and have been trying to print it out in "banner" format on a Cannon Bubble Jet 4300 and/or HP DeskJet 722C. The bubble jet documentation limits length to 6' but I can't print each segment in 6' increments. I can print in "overlap" format which means I have a lot of cutting/pasteing to do. The HP DeskJet documentation indicates that it will print in "banner" format but it will only print one page and then stops. I can also get it to print in "overlap" but that still requires cutting/pasteing. I can live with cutting/pasteing if I have to but I would much rather have it all in one length. I have tried reducing font size and block size but that will only reduce the length minimally. Besides, the font is already so small that any further reduction will make it difficult to see. Can anyone give me a suggestion as to what I should do to correct my problem (other than purchasing new software or printer). Please e-mail suggestions to below address. Re: synagogue marriages in England
#general
michael slifkin <slifkin@...>
As I already wrote you would arrange with the Registry of Deaths Births and
Marriages to send a Marriage Registrar to the wedding. He would come with his two registers and book of certificates and register the marriage. You would also have to pay his attendance fee which in 1992 was 26 pound sterling, plus the fee for the marriage certificate if you asked for one. However such a marraige had to take place in a registered building. It ws a very esy mater to get registered so a newly formed congegration would not have any trouble getting registered. Quakers also had their own marriage secretaries like the Jews. Amdur / Indura
#belarus
Michael Tobias <michael@...>
Hi,
I am trying to help somebody researching their families in Amdur (now called Indura). Family names TURIANSKY, GOLDSTONE, PASEWICZ, MARGOLYES, SHAPIRO. I believe there are some Revision Lists for the town (probably in Grodno Archives). Does anyone on this list know anything of these lists, or other records for the town? Any assistance would be appreciated, particularly as we plan to visit the town/area in under 3 weeks time! Many thanks. -- Michael Tobias

Lachowicze Records Translated
#belarus
GMPalgon@...
I have obtained the following records for Lachowicze, Belarus and had all
but the last one translated (since it is so long). Opening of the Jewish school in Lyachovichi (1875) Checking up of Jewish in Lyachovichi (1895) Checking up of the registration of Jewish in Lyachovichi (1896) The elections of Jews - petty bourgeoisie of Lyachovichi to the city government (1885) The case of Shevel son of Matus Sztejn (Shtein) against peasant Kazimr Maximchik (1911) The case against Nota Olcha (1883) - The List of Jews - The Men of Lyachovichi (1884)' For the document 'The List of Jews - The Men of Lyachovichi (1884)' which has over 1000 names on it, I have not had it translated due to the cost, but have asked that the following names be searched for and accompanying information translated for me. We are considering having this translated, but it would be over $500. I have already communicated to the group of people I know are interested in Lachowicze, but thought I would share the availability of these with anyone else that might be interested. If you would like me to review the documents for the family names you are interested in, please let me know. We are sharing in the costs of the searching, copying and translating of the records, so if you would like copies of the actual records as well, I would appreciate your contribution to share the expenses already incurred as well. Email privately for my snail mail address. Sincerely, Gary Palgon, President, JGSG, Inc. (Georgia)
