Latvia SIG #Latvia Announcing our 2017/5777 Volunteer of the Year! #latvia

Groll, Avraham

At last week's 2017 IAJGS conference, JewishGen was proud to name Dr.
Janette Silverman, coordinator of the JewishGen Ukraine SIG, as the
recipient of our 2017/5777 Volunteer of the Year award.

Over the years, Janette has devoted an enormous amount of time to
JewishGen's important work. In addition to serving as the coordinator
for the JewishGen Ukraine SIG, she serves as a moderator for the
JewishGen Discussion Groups, has previously served on our operations
committee, and is someone who consistently tries to help in any way
that she can. The results of her hard work are readily apparent to
users, and her organizational skills are admired by her many co-
volunteers.

We wish Janette a Mazal Tov on this well-deserved honor, and express
our sincere gratitude for her outstanding contributions and devotion to
JewishGen and the broader Jewish genealogical community.

Mazal Tov!

Re: Immigration/Emigration 1930's #unitedkingdom

Eva Lawrence

Dear Judith
Have you checked for Claire Philipborn's name in the 1939 UK 'census',
which is available on Findmypast? That would narrow down the date for
her departure, even if it doesn't locate her.
Findmypast also is very good for passenger lists and travel, and
immigration >from the UK for the period you're interested in.

Best wishes

Eva Lawrence

Dear JGenners,
Are there available records for persons visiting and leaving England
in the late 1930's? My distant cousin, born in Germany but by then
stateless, traveled >from Spain to London (?) to visit her nephew.
She had volunteered as a nurse for the Republic during the Spanish
Civil War. This would have been in late 1938 or early 1939. Her name
was Clara/Claire/Klara PHILIPSBORN and the nephew's name was Guenther
Harry BERENDT. He was living in England under the protection of his
2c1r, Sir Robert MOND (d. 1938). Family stories conflict on where
Clara went after she visited Guenther, so it is very important that I
locate a document, particularly a departure document. I will greatly
appreciate any clues.

Hi everyone,

I found a lovely photo of Lotte Hermina Schiffer taken in Praha. Her sister
Lilli has written a note on the back. Lotte was 3 1/2years old in 1936.

I understand she was murdered by the Nazis at Auschwitz.

I would be pleased to send the photo to a family member or alternatively send it to Yad Vashem.

Dear genealogy friends. I have a problem to solve and hope that you can
assist me.
I have GRUNHUT (umlaut above the first u) families >from both my father and
my mother whose birth name was Betty GRUNHUT.
I have found Moises GRUNHUT b. 1790 in Nachod, Bohemia and died there in
1856. I would like the names of his siblings. I believe that will give
me the information I need to connect the paternal and maternal families.
Please contact me privately at hank.lobben@...

Simon GOLDENBERG, born 7 July 1918 in PARIS, was deported on 15 May
1944 >from France towards the Baltic States and died there. Some
documents claim that he was married to Tauba SIERADZKI. That's all the
information I found. Does anybody knows more about Tauba SIERADZKI ?
