There is a family call Zalmanowitz in Edmonton, Alberta but I don't know

I just joined the Belarus SIG. My mother's maternal grandparents were
from Rogachev - searching for ZALMANOV / ZELMANOV (have made several
contacts via JewishGen) and YASHINEFSKY (no luck, so far).

Photos of shtetl. Might be Mir #belarus

Reeva Kimble <rKimble@...>

I found some old photos (1920s?) of town scenes in a drawer full of photos
belonging to my grandfather. Joe Jacobson was born in Mir (near Minsk,
Belarus) and came to the US in 1884.

These photos might come >from Mir, taken by someone giving a talk about his
trip and selling copies of the photos. (I guess that because the photos are
numbered.) If anyone can identify these pictures as Mir or as definitely
not Mir, I would love to hear >from you. Any information would be useful.

Please come to my web site and click on the link to: Might be Mir

Thank you,

Hi all:
On Aug 23 Ricki Zunk sought info. about a "mental institution in Central
Islip,
NY, within the time frame 1920-1938. He asked for a private response but I
think that other members of the group might benefit >from such information. I
too am interested in the "Central Islip Psychiatric Center". Does anyone
know if
60 to 70 year old records might be available for genealogical purposes?

TIA

I believe, there were other reports on JG about this.
