Kaplan Family from Krynki #poland

Janis Schonholz <jschonholz@...>

Hello Fellow Siggers,

I am looking for information on the Kaplan family who lived in Chicago
in the 1940's/50's, possibly moving to California. They would be
cousins of my maternal grandmother, Yetta/Yenta Kaplan (married name
Block), Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Turkey Day!

We have waited five years, with bated breath, for this to happen. And
finally, it's ready: on 24 November 2016, Volume II of Georg Gaugusch's
monumental work, "Those Who Once Were. Vienna's Upper Class Jewish Society
1800-1938" ("Wer einmal war. Das judische Grosburgertum Wiens 1800-1938")
will be presented.

We first put together the Index of Names comprising far more than 34,000
documented personal identifications which we provide to you here
exclusively. In addition, all town names have also been included and
properly assigned. In pop-up information fields (for family name, first
name, page and town) all the indicated data can be viewed at a glance or
scrolled through, thus providing not only the advantage of gaining a quicker
and more comprehensive overview of the whole mass of data, but also helping
to avoid empty searches which bring up no results

Tombstones on Ingelheim Jewish Cemetery

It took Klaus Duersch, chairperson of the Deutsch-Israelischer Freundeskreis
Ingelheim (DIF) some years to document the inscriptions of the more than 200
tombstones on the four Jewish cemeteries of Ingelheim/Rhein, a town
neighbouring Mainz/Rhein, the former Jewish Ashkenaz centre Magenza. With
the help of Salomon Ludwig Steinheim Institute, Essen, the inscriptions are
now all listed in their data base EPIDAT and can be found under
www.steinheim-institut.de/cgi-bin/epidat.

Dear Siggers:

I have received a request for pictures of graves in the Orthodox Cemetery.
Our project does not include pictures >from this cemetery. The list of burials
in the Orthodox Cemetery was done by my photographer as part of the Oradea
Burial Records Project. For anyone who donates to the project and has
ancestors buried in the Orthodox Cemetery, we will arrange someone to go and
photograph their ancestor in the Orthodox Cemetery. Their might be a slight
charge, but very reasonable.

For those who want to donate:

Go to: <http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/>
Click on either the Hungarian SIG or Romanian SIG
then click on the: ORADEA, ROMANIA-BURIAL RECORDS : type in the amount in
the Donation column and click on Donate.

Remember: If you have a ancestor found in the Velenta Cemetery, we will
also send you the original large photos.

Update to 1851 Anglo-jewish Database #unitedkingdom

louisemessik@...

Following further research and contributions >from other researchers the
indomitable Petra Laidlaw's Anglo-Jewry database has been updated and
can be viewed at www.jewishgen.org/jcr-uk/1851/introduction.htm.

In Petra's own words:-

"The revised version has a lot of extra data that contributors have sent
in, my warm thanks to all concerned. Many of the existing entries are
richer, some lurking errors have been weeded out, and there are also
quite a lot of new entries, bringing the total now to well over 30,000.

That still means, though, that perhaps two or three thousand Jews
resident in the British Isles during 1851 aren't listed. I hope to pick
most of them up eventually, though we'll never be able to say we've got
them all. Some will have evaded almost any documentation; and, with
people marrying in and marrying out, the population becomes very hard to
define at the margins. But please do let me know if you have 1851
residence details of anyone who isn't already on the Database. And
continue to send in corrections and expansions for the existing entries.

If you are interested in what the database tells us about the 1851
Anglo-Jewish populations as a whole, a further paper - on marriage and
childbearing - was published late last year*, following earlier papers
on Birthplaces, Residence and Migrations and on Occupations. (*Laidlaw,
P, 'Jews on the British Isles in 1851: Marriage and Childbearing' in the
Jewish Journal of Sociology, volume LVII (London, 2015))"

Thank you Petra.
