Hyman GOLDING

Harvey Kaplan
Looking for any information about a Golding family who were listed in
the Gorbals immigrant area of Glasgow in the 1911 Census. The widow Ethel Golding was 56 and born in Odessa, Ukraine. Perhaps her original name was Goldinger? Ethel had given birth to 8 children, of which only 4 were still living. Only 1 of the children was living with her in 1911 - 23 year old Hyman Golding, also born in Odessa and a wood carver. Hyman had left Glasgow and was living in London by 1914. Does anyone have any knowledge of what became of Hyman and his mother Ethel? thanks Harvey Kaplan Glasgow, Scotland |

Here's a thought to ponder. My daughter-in-law's Indian family changed its name from a Southern India name to a Northern one when her parents emigrated around 40 years ago. I was told that they chose a more common last name that would be accepted where they lived in NYC and presumably that also helped her father establish his medical practice.

Looking for any assistance to locate Buchbinder family pre-1770
#poland
Mike Bookbinder
Hello
I haven't posted previously but am searching for any hints or resources that might be able to lead me to my paternal ancestors pre-1770.
Zieda Idzkovna Buchbinder (born Idzkowa) and Joel Buchbinder, my great-great-great-great grandparents, were allegedly born in Wizna, Poland circa 1770. I haven't been able to find any relatives prior, nor do I know where the 18th century Buchbinders migrated from. I presume Germany, but perhaps not.
Any tips are very much appreciated.
Thank you
Mike Bookbinder

There is a more locally derived database of bmd for Manchester. See www.lancashirebmd.org.uk which has been transcribed from the original registry office files. For other areas see www.ukbmd.org.uk. The General Registry Office index has numerous errors due to transcription processes.

Andreas Schwab
German has had obligatory civil marriage since 1876, so you should ask the city archive of Siegburg about the record:

Advice on finding record for a Siegburg marriage in a cathedral?
#germany
Michael Gordy
According to a family tree I found on MyHeritage, a cousin of mine, born Jewish in Vienna, was married in 1917 to a Christian in St Servatius Cathedral in Siegburg. I have little experience with German records and no experience with records for Catholic marriages. How would one obtain a record? My cousin had a very common name so there is a reasonable likelihood of an error in the tree. Michael Gordy Takoma Park, Maryland, USA |

kisanders
Thanks to all who responded. I did have the info on my other cousins, and yes, it seems all Siberdi people are my relatives...the name was taken when my great grandfather moved to Romania. No one ones what the name was originally, or where he was from, except that it was the Austro-Hungarian Empire (according to my grandmothers' birth record.) You would think tat with such a unique name, that research would be easier, but it is not!
