This is the birth registration for Chana Rejzla NISENBAUM in
Janow Podlaski, 1886. If the names Chaim Uszer and/or Fradl or
Rudla Laja KOHN/KAPLAN appear then this document is a goldmine for me
and I'd appreciate complete translation. If they're not involved then
just the basic extraction would be fine.

With new data for Warsaw, I've taken heart and have found some records I'd
like translated please. They are all >from Warsaw, late 1800s early 1900s,
and are in Russian. The summary of the records have quite a bit of details,
as described below, so I don't need a word for word translation, just any

This records the birth of a daughter Sura Cypa BLUMBERG on 24 April 1876
to Bina nee RAKOWER and Beniiamin BLUMBERG. Bina RAKOWER was the half
sister of my grandmother Udla AJZENGOLD, child of her mother's first
marriage. Her mother's maiden name was also BLUMBERG, so it looks like
she married a BLUMBERG relative. When last I looked, Bina had totally
disappeared >from any records, and I'm delighted to see that she made it
to adulthood and motherhood. I would really like to know any further
information on the record, particularly anything more about Beniiamin,
who might be on my BLUMBERG line, which I know very little about.

of new extracts >from books scanned in the Sandomierz Archives. The
extracts include details >from the nearly intact 1931-1939 Opatow Book
of Residents (BOR), as well as the partially intact 1939 and 1940
street-by-street Census.

In addition to the later BOR, all the volumes >from the 1880-1930
Opatow BOR were also scanned. We have thus far extracted the Index to
these volumes. The volumes, it turns out, consistently contain an
extensive amount of information including dates and place of birth,
death, and parentage for the residents listed. This is contrary to
the later Opatow BOR that mostly lists names in each household and
only occasionally dates of birth and parentage.

For those Opatow researchers who are interested only in the earlier
BOR and contribute to the BOR Project, we will be pleased to track
down the scan showing the pages with the households of direct family
ancestors and provide an English extract of the details, mostly
written in Cyrillic.

Shapiro versus Shapira is not connected to Russian spelling. Shapira is
related to Hebrew transliteration. In Hebrew this surname is pronounced
Shapira. So in most vital records >from Belarus in Russian part is also
written Shapira. But it seems that in Ashkenazi Hebrew A became O as in
many other surnames and names. For example, Asher-Osher, Baruch-Boruch etc.
My Belarus Shapira ancestors were written mostly as Shapira in vital records
and other documents.
Just later, mainly in 20th century, the surname was written Shapiro for all
my family in Russia, but it stayed Shapira among those relatives that came
to Palestine and lived in Israel.
In Russian O becomes A in syllables which are not stressed, but never vice versa.
