ViewMate 52310: Russian Translation Needed #general

The Becker's Email

Dear Genners,

I am helping a friend research her family (SCHNEIDER) >from Lithuania. She
has a one page type written document in Russian that I am posting on
ViewMate. It appears it is a fax sent in 1994. The names of three people
are in English. My friend is one of the women whose name appears. It is
possible this is a letter to an unknown person in Russia about family
members in the US. The hope is to determine the contents of this document
and whether it provides any names and contact information of family
members/friends in Russia or any other pertinent information. My friend and
her family currently have no knowledge/contact information for any relatives
who did not emigrate.

Any help in translating this document would be greatly appreciated.

Subcarpathia SIG Update & End-of-year Donation Request #subcarpathia

Lara Diamond

Fellow Subcarpathian Researchers,

I'm pleased to inform you that due to the donations we have so far and
volunteer transcribers, we have made progress in acquiring and
transcribing records >from what's now Subcarpathian Ukraine.

So far, we have 137 record books of which:

87 record books have been fully transcribed
19 books are in the process of being transcribed by volunteers
31 books (and counting) are awaiting assignment to a volunteer

8395 Jewish vital records were in those 87 books--most of which
contain multiple names.

While this is a great start, it looks like there are nearly 3000 (yes,
3000!) record books available for us, covering essentially *every* town
in Subcarpathian Ukraine. We are still getting more books each week,
but we'll run out of funds well before acquiring all 3000 of those
books.

We could greatly use your donation (and it's tax-deductible for those
of you in the US--so donate now for a 2016 deduction!) to enable us to
get all of these books copied and eventually transcribed. Donations
of $100 and above get you access to transcriptions as they are
finished as well as the frequently-updated list of what we have,
although larger donations are very much welcome. Donations can be
made to the Sub-Carpathia SIG General Fund here:
http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/v_projectslist.asp?project_cat=50
.

We can also use additional transcribers to help work through the books
as they're received. If you can read English, you can read these
documents. I will send you instructions which explain what the
various fields are, and the names in Hungarian or Czech (depending on
the year) are in Latin (the same as English) characters. Please let
me know if you're interested. In addition, once you have transcribed
500 records, you also gain access to all transcriptions as they are
finished.

I could also use a volunteer webmaster to help update the SIG's
webpage. If you have webmaster experience, please contact me.

We may not have your town yet, but we will. Please don't bombard me
with emails me to find out what towns we have; it's constantly
changing, and we're working to get all of them. And many record books
cover multiple towns, so until they're transcribed, we won't know
exactly which towns are in which record books.

R. FERLEGER, R. Naftali KATZ #rabbinic

David Ferleger

Greetings,

Rabbi Eliezer Lipa FERLEGER (Szczociny), died 1834, was a disciple
of R Dovid of Lelov, and the Choze of Lublin, and is listed in
rabbinic lineages I have seen.

One of his sons was Rabbi Yechiel Alter FERLEGER, Chief Rabbi of
Ivansk (Iwanska, Poland). They are listed as ">from the offsprings of
Rabbi Naftali Katz author of Smichas Chachamim and the Maharsha
(died 5 Kislev 392).

Some time ago, Yehuda Klausner kindly sent some information as did
Matt Peretz, both through this list, as I recall with deep thanks.

Does anyone have, or have access to, or can point me to, further
information on FERLEGER families/rabbinic.

As their descendant, and for our children, I am of course vitally
interested.

Katzenellenbogen Dinasty #rabbinic

Alberto Guido Chester

My research has linked myself with Jakob Ioshua (Pnei Yeoshua), a well
known scholar.

This makes me a member of the Katzenellenbogen dinasty and a
descendant of Saul Wahl (King of Poland for one night).

This was discussed in the old days of this marvelous Jewishgen group about
1994.

At this time, I am asking for help to link Pnei Jeoshua and Saul Wahl
more closely and accurately.

Can anyone help with their relationship ?

If not, are the children of Rabbi Arye Leib (Levi Yoshua) the
offspring of his first wife (Rachel Heilprin) or the second one (Edel
Teonim Frankel) . This info is taken >from Neil Rosenstein s The
Unbroken Chain and other previous sources.

Thanks in advance.

JOWBR Breaks Through 3 Million Record Mark! (JOWBR Year-End Update) #rabbinic

Nolan Altman

JewishGen is proud to announce its 2016 year end update to the JOWBR
(JewishGen's Online Worldwide Burial Registry) database. The JOWBR database
can be accessed at www.jewishgen.org/databases/Cemetery/ If you're a new
JOWBR user, we recommend that you visit our screencast page at
www.jewishgen.org/databases/Cemetery/Screencasts/ and take a look at the
first two explanatory screencasts.

This update, adds approximately 172,000 new records and 21,000 new
photos. The database is adding and/or updating 590 cemeteries. This update
brings JOWBR's holdings to 3.05 million records >from more than 6,800
cemeteries / cemetery sections representing 125 countries!

Once again, donors for this update include a mix of individuals, Jewish
genealogical societies, historical societies and museums. We appreciate all
our donor's submissions and the transliteration work done by a faithful
group of JewishGen volunteers.

The 3 most significant additions to JOWBR add burial records >from 2
London cemeteries and 1 Chicago suburban cemetery.
JGSGB (jgsgb.org.uk/) and JCR-UK (www.jewishgen.org/JCR-uk/) have been working
with the Federation of Synagogues (www.federationofsynagogues.com/) to make
available the details of burials at the Federation's Edmonton and Rainham
cemeteries.
The JGS of Illinois (www.jgsi.org) submitted data >from the Westlawn Cemetery
in Norridge, Illinois.

In addition to those additions, other significant additions to the
database include collections >from Germany, Romania (Arad), Czech Republic
(Praha-Zizkov and Straznice), France, Moldova, Turkey (Istanbul), Croatia
(Zagreb), Colombia (Medellin), Ukraine (Dnipropetrovsk) and the United
States. Please see www.jewishgen.org/databases/Cemetery/tree/CemList.htm for
a complete listing of all cemeteries in JOWBR.

I want to particularly thank Eric Feinstein who has been helping me to
find and gain permission to add many non-US records >from Germany, France and
under-represented countries. Eric's group of volunteers includes Alla
Aizenberg, Sandra Bennett, Lineke Bos, Andre Convers, Pia Crook, Sharon
Duckman, George Goldschmied, Henry Graupner, Ann Meddin Hellman, Maurice
Kessler, Harriet Mayer, Irene Newhouse, Hans Nord, Irina Roskin, Marylin
Shalks, Isaac Shapiro, Suzanne Tarica, Michael Waas, and Valerie White. In
addition, a big thank you to our volunteer transliterators, led by Gilberto
Jugend, without whom we would not be able to add the information >from some
very difficult to read photos.

We appreciate all the work our donors have done and encourage you to
make additional submissions. Whether you work on a cemetery / cemetery
section individually or consider a group project for your local Society,
temple or other group, it's your submissions that help grow the JOWBR
database and make it possible for researchers and family members to find
answers they otherwise might not. Please also consider other organizations
you may be affiliated with that may already have done cemetery indexing that
would consider having their records included in the JOWBR database.

Sephardic SIG #Sephardim JOWBR Breaks Through 3 Million Record Mark! (JOWBR Year-End Update) #sephardic
