Translation from Hungarian into English
#hungary
Dear H-SIGgers
This is a postcard written in 1941, in Hungarian >from Isidor (or Israel) GOLDSTEIN to his younger brother Geza (later Gerald)GOLDSTEIN. I believe they were both living in New York at the time. http://www.jewishgen.org/ViewMate/viewmateview.asp?key=52286 BTW, I'm still trying to find living descendants of Isidore (Israel) GOLDSTEIN, who was married to Elizabeth, in Kosice, Slovakia. The couple emigrated to the USA in the 1930s with their two children Piroska (later Pearl SALOMON) and Tibor (Theodore). As you can imagine, researching a name like GOLDSTEIN can be very difficult. Regarding some of my family, you can read more at: http://steiner-goldman.com/goldstein_family.html. that includes a wedding photo of the above couple. I will probably post some more letters in Hungarian, and thank you in advance for whatever help you can provide. Regards, Madeleine Isenberg madeleine.isenberg@... Beverly Hills, CA Researching: GOLDMAN, STEINER, LANGER, GLUECKSMAN, STOTTER in various parts of Galicia, Poland: Nowy Targ, Nowy Sanz, Wachsmund, Dembno, Lapuszna, Krakow, who migrated into Kezmarok or nearby towns in northern Slovakia and Czech Republic (i.e., those who lived/had businesses in Moravska Ostrava). GOLDSTEIN in Abaujszina (Sena), Szkaros and Kosice, Slovakia; Tolcsva, Hungary; very briefly in Timisoara, Romania, and New York, USA Moderator: Please use Viewmate to respond if you can help. |

Someone named Zborovsky in 1914 Russia
#general
David Goldman
Jewishgenners, I was just reading a letter of 100 years ago written by my
great-great-grandfather to his daughter and family in Canada in which he mentions that he is happy that they are interested in the fate of someone named Zborovsky. I have no idea whether this man was simply a family acquaintance or was some major Jewish or Russian figure in 1914 (just before the outbreak of World War I). I did Google a bit to see if there were any clues online, but so far I haven't run into any. Perhaps this person was simply a neighbor or friend, but in case he was famous I'd be happy to hear >from anyone about it. Thanks, David Goldman NYC |
