Searching for descendants of Harry SCHWARTZ and Molly (nee ANTKES) SCHWARTZ of Detroit #general

Steven Bloom

Hello,

I am looking for descendants of Harry SCHWARTZ (born Hersz Szwarczburg) and
Molly ANTKES SCHWARTZ (born Malka Ruchla ANTKES).

They lived in Detroit and Molly died there in 1950. I don't know when Harry
died, but I do believe he was alive when the family came to the US >from
Ciechanow, Poland.

They had a son Samuel SCHWARTZ who was alive when Molly died, but I don't know
anything about him.

JRI Poland shows that this couple had two children in Poland, Chaim and Zysa.
I don't know if they lived to see the US or if Samuel is really "Chaim", etc.

So, if there is anyone out there who is a descendant of this couple, and know
where to find some, I can share info about your ancestry.

Please contact me privately: sbloom@...

Fellow Genealogists...
My grandmother Chana Faigl GOLUBOVSKI came >from Orlya, Belarus all by herself at 16.

Several months ago I found my father's first cousin in Ukraine (originally >from Orlya). On a Yad Vashem page of testimony >from 2006 there was an address in Kharkov, UKraine of the person making the page of testimony--Margarita, my father's cousin.
Margarita had moved but the person in her old apt. knew where she was.
Someone >from this list in Kharkov found Margarita.

So..a relative of Margarita (who is now 86 and ailing) answered my email in Russian and wonderful people on this list translated for me. BUT...the people in Kharkov have not responded back. Perhaps Margarita, is very ill, etc. I emailed photos to get identified and wanted to know more about our family (her father was my grandmother's brother). She had heard about my grandmother and told us several things where we knew we were related (Chicago, 3 brothers, etc). We knew nothing about my grandmother's family until several photos emerged recently and caused me to go back to the Yad VAshem database.

Any recommendations of how I should proceed? Could someone in Ukraine call them up for me and explain that I would love a family tree. Or at least inquire how Margarita is and what I can do for the family. My father is 95 and now has a first cousin!! He knew nothing about his mother's family at all (now we know that many were shot in 1941 in Zheloduk). I have so many questions.

South Africa SIG #SouthAfrica Union of South Africa Aliens Registration Act of 1939 Registration Certificate Information #southafrica

P. L. Robinson

The Union of South Africa Aliens Registration Act of 1939 required
aliens to produce a Registration Certificate. We have in our possession
a copy of the 4 August 1941 Certificate our great uncle, Philip LEVIN,
was issued, No. 45364 in Police District No. 26. Philip immigrated >from
Lithuania circa 1900 and had settled in Fauresmith.

How and where could we obtain the records that our great uncle may have
submitted to obtain his Alien Registration Certificate? Two of our
great aunts (his sisters) were also alive in South Africa in 1941 (in
Pretoria and Johannesburg). Would they also have been required to
obtain Alien Registration Certificates? If so, where could we find their
information?

GerSIG Luncheon at the IAJGS Conference in Seattle #germany

Jeanette R Rosenberg OBE

Dear GerSIG members

Time is passing quickly now and we're getting closer to conference, so
it's about now that you need to book your place at our GerSIG
Luncheon.

Your GerSIG Directors have invited an amazing Guest Speaker.
Stephen Falk, will be giving two talks during the conference, one
on the main program and one during our luncheon.

However unless sufficient people book and pay for tickets to the
luncheon it will be unable to go ahead. That's where you come in.

Many of you have have registered for the Conference but haven't yet
booked your seat at our Wednesday luncheon. Now would be a great time
to book and pay for your place.

During the luncheon, Stephen will be telling us all about the three
Breslau Jewish cemeteries: (1) the destroyed Claassenstrasse cemetery
(1761-1856), (2) the Lohestrasse cemetery (1856-1941), now part of the
Wroclaw Museum system, and (3) the Breslau-Cosel cemetery
(1900-present), managed by the Wroclaw Jewish Community. There will
also be discussion of the cemeteries themselves and related archival
materials.

If you've not yet told me that you are a member of GerSIG and you are
coming to conference, please can you also let me know by sending me an
email off list?

Your GerSIG Directors look forward to welcoming you to Stephen's talks
and to meeting you again at Conference this summer.

Best regards, Jeanette

There is an 1858 Minsk Revision List, but that's the only one I'm aware of.
I'm pretty sure it is now part of the 'All Belarus' database; I don't know.
if it is still available as a unique list.
