Seattle Jewish Theater Company at the 36th IAJGS Conference #lithuania

Janette Silverman <cochairs@...>

This summer's 36th conference of the International Association of Jewish
Genealogical Societies in Seattle will feature a performance of the
highly acclaimed play >from Door to Door. The heart-warming, bittersweet
comedy will be staged by the Seattle Jewish Theater Company, a local
theater group devoted to Jewish-themed plays.

Written by award-winning playwright James Sherman and directed by SJTC
artistic director Art Feinglass, >from Door to Door follows the lives of
three generations of a family of Jewish women, >from impoverished
immigrant to successful American. The performance will take place on
the evening of August 9 in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel in
downtown Seattle, where the conference will run >from August 7 to 12.

As director Art Feinglass notes, "The play takes its title >from the
Hebrew song L'dor V'dor, '>from generation to generation.' It examines
what it means to grow up Jewish and to love those closest to, and most
like, ourselves." An audience discussion with the director and cast will
follow the performance.

During the conference, SJTC will also present Jewish History Live in
which actors will portray Jewish immigrants who came to Seattle from
areas as disparate as Turkey, Rhodes, and Russia in the early 1900s, and
Germany and Czechoslovakia in the 1930s. They will engage conference
attendees in conversation, tell their personal stories and share their
dreams as new immigrants to America.

This summer's IAJGS conference will also feature a Jewish Film Festival
put together by leading Jewish film scholar and teacher of cinema Eric
Goldman. Other highlights include the opening night keynote address by
Dr. Devin Naar, chair of the University of Washington Sephardic Studies
Program, and a resource room accessing a vast array of databases. And,
as at previous conferences, remote streaming of selected programs will
be available through LIVE!

Please respond via the form provided on the ViewMate application.

Researching DOFFMANS from Warsaw area #poland

RuthNW <ruthnw@...>

Dear All,

According to his UK Naturalization papers, Maurice DOFFMAN - father of
my (late) maternal first cousin Cecil - was born in Warsaw in 1898 to
Joseph and Sarah DOFFMAN. Despite a diligent search of the Warsaw
Gubernia BMD records listed in the JRI-Poland database I haven't found
Maurice DOFFMAN's birth record, nor any vital records for other DOFFMANS,
for that matter. A search of the entire database listed three DOFFMANS
in two other gubernias- all of whom were female.

Question: have all of the Warsaw BMD records been indexed or are there
more to come?

... I found a JewishGen researcher (no. 140252), researching the same

Using the following resources, I traced the researcher's relatives and
discovered her grandmother's maiden name was GINSBERG and an extensive
family tree.

JGFF < http://www.jewishgen.org/jgff/ > researcher #140252 for GINSBERG
from Radyvyliv, Ukraine last logged in April 2015. Via JGFF, I sent
Yohanan's post with a copy to myself to find out the researcher's name
and perhaps result in a reply.

Intelius < http://www.stephenmorse.org/birthday/publicrec.html > lists the
researcher's age and relatives as well as their ages and relatives and
associated cities.

A Google search < www.google.com > resulted in an obituary for the
researcher's grandmother whose maiden name was GINSBERG and mentions more
relatives to trace and contact.

AnyWho < http://www.anywho.com/whitepages > lists addresses and phones for
two of the grandmother's children.

Ancestry < www.ancestry.com >
The 1940 census lists the researcher's grandmother's birthplace as Illinois.
Cook County, Illinois, Birth Certificates Index, 1871-1922 lists her
parents' names, which may help Yohanan link her to Eli's father.
An extensive member-submitted family tree, that appears well-researched
including photos and documents, goes back three earlier generations with
ancestors all born in Radyvyliv.

Per JewishGen Communities < http://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/LocTown.asp
Radyvyliv, Ukraine was Radzivlov in Kremenets, Volhynia, Russian Empire
before WWI and Radziwillow, Dubno, Wolyn, Poland between the Wars. >from 1939
to 1992 the town was Chervonoarmeisk in the Soviet Union.

All of the information found was sent to Yohanan who will hopefully be able
to connect the GINSBERG families.
